so it voids the warranty is possibly illegal and probably should not be attempted by most individuals :)

this was my point. accidental discharges happen all the time this seems like it could only increase those chances.

what features le is required to have on their weapons idk because i'm not le but, if it's ;aw that every gun now being sold in ca. must have this feature how is not illegal to simply remove it?

for those who feel confident modding their guns who cares chances are they already knew about this but, for most i would say it's not a great idea.

My understanding is that this was to help with the high number of officers killed with their own gun.

Yea, I have S&W M&P and its plastered everywhere on the gun, box, and instructions that the gun will fire without a mag inserted. Some guns will, some wont. Its all dependant on the purpose of it. I bet if you look at all LEO/tactical style pistols they will fire with out a mag unless otherwise required by law.

The reason for this is if you change a mag out before your empty you can still point and shoot one last round if the situation warrents.

If the OP is confident in what he is doing and its not against the law I see no differance in what he is doing over that than modifying the trigger on my long rifle for a light brake. If the OP (or whom ever does this) follows the safe practice of handling and clearing of a fire arm there should never be a situation where a negligent discharge would occur.

Oh and for people that keep using the term ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE, its a BS term. Most LEO & Military have changed from accident discharge to NEGLIGENT DISCHARGE because if the shooter had been properly handling the weapon there is no way a discharge could have happened unless 1 of 2 ways... 1, a weapons malfunction in which case it is stated as such and 2, NEGLIGENT use or handling of a fire arm.

Also, this thread isnt any differant than threads I have seen on on TW on the use of the AR-15 Bullet Button magnet used to bypass a required california safety device on the AR-15 platform guns.

That is completely different. The bullet button is used to conform to CA AW laws. The handgun magazine disconnect is not

A hundgun without a magazine disconnect is not an assault weapon

Yes, it is now required on any handgun that is to be ADDED to the handgun roster. If a certain handgun was on the roster before it was required it may stay on the roster without adding that feature as long as the manufacturer keeps its roster status current.

He was saying that messing with the magazine disconnect is like effectively removing an AR15 bullet button, but that is not true because removing an AR15 bullet button turns it into an assault weapon whereas removing a magazine disconnect does not.

Removing the magazine disconnect after the handgun has been purchased and transferred to the owner would be the equivalent of buying an off roster handgun as a single shot and converting it to semi-auto which is legal.

Correct, the bullet button is used and required in CA.. The bullet button MAGNET is used to bypass this requirement... Why is no one making a deal about that but they are this. I personally thing the bullet button requirement is stupid but thats another subject all together. Proper and safe handling of a fire arm negates any requirement for one.

The big issue isnt if you should or shouldnt do this mod, it if you legally can and no one has been able to post up so far is I have seen. Lets see the regulation... I cant find anything.

Im pretty sure the bullet button magnet is illegal because it is not a tool if it is attached to the bullet button, turning it into a normal mag release.

I doubt anyone will find anything saying that removing the magazine disconnect is illegal. I don't see how it is any different than using a single shot exemption to legally obtain an off roster handgun

my M&P doesnt have the mag disconnect safety either..imho a LEO would want a mag disconnect that way if they get in a struggle over their weapon they can drop the mag to make it inoperable....

I think people with this opinion- though I follow your logic- fail to remember that guns are used to defend oneself.

LE is a widly unpredictable job, and that includes fights- but with that said- you can tell the guy/gal thats just being a pain in the ass, and the guy who is fighting for something more.

And when you're in such a serious fight- one in which you genuinely fear that the subject is going to over-power you, take your gun and use it against you- and you have the ability to free up a hand and reach to your gun, you dont drop your mag. You draw that gun and shoot the subject.

Same thing- if the gun is out and you're fighting for it, and you get your hands on it- dont drop the mag out - use the gun to kill the subject.

I have to disagree. I dont see it as a plus. Having been in a tactical enviroment many times before I like the idea of having 1 in the chamber while re-loading.

That being said, if an attacker has the ability to overpower the police officer and use his own weapon against him, the officer is already in a complete and utter world of shit...

I would be interested in hearing from more LEO's on this subject. Does your service pistol have this feature. I did read that California LEO's are exempt from this rule so that leads me to believe that they do not have this feature on their pistols. Also, many police/tactical pistols dont even have a true safety i.e. my M&P so I would be suprised if they do have this as well.

Again, my duty weapon WILL fire without a magazine

And I'd like to keep it that way

If a subject attempts or successfully takes my gun away...and I get my hands on it...he's dead...period

I want that gun to be operable no matter what

This is what I was thinking. If someone tries taking your gun and you do get the mag out of it but you end up with the gun, now you can't shoot because of the mag disconnect. That doesn't make sense
