I want to install a track system on the inside of the side bed rails of my long bed for strapping and mounting my bed rack to. So, I can adjust the crossbars where I need them. Has anyone done something like this?
The only thing I can come up with is bolting 1.5" X 1.5" angle iron to the side rails and mounting either the L track or finding an actual bed rail track.

These trucks are really old so you won't find modern vehicle tech solutions right away.

Bed racks, aftermarket or DIY, primarily use angle iron to sit on and attach via the sides of the bed.

If it were my truck, I'd just run separate bars over the bed (I'd make 3 or 4) and make bars with flat stock tabs welded on the ends at designated lengths for a variety of bed rack sizes.

Attach said bars to the bars that cross over the bed for reinforcement.

This way you've got a strong, modular setup that's easy to make and put together.

That's why I'm trying to come up with my own solution.

Well, you think what I proposed would work?

    It should.

    I'd build one if I had a 1st Gen.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Just how much weight do you plan to need to support??

Pulling on just the side rail might pull it loose.

Heavy loads I also supported the weight on the top section of the bed if they slide along on the side rail but was also supported on Top I had no problems.

@Kwikvette will use any excuse to cut parts on his plasma table and glue them together.
