Look at mine post #4580 . Just put a drop on my hitch because I was at the bottom holes and trailer was nose high . I really don’t like the way the WD bars are angled . They are close to the road too ! Those bars are not supposed to be super tight are they ? @Ruggybuggy

The bar chains are set based on the amount of weight distribution you need. Do you have the manual for your WD hitch? The set up is there so find the manual online. By tightening up the chains to much can result in loss of control. Your taking weight off the rear axle and putting it to the front axle and trailer axle. Can you change your hitch head angle? Changing the head angle will bring the bars up. As it sits the trailer and truck look good. You just need to bring the bars up with a head adjustment and not by tightening up the chains.

No manual , I will look it up . Watched a YouTube video and the one thing I did not do was raise the jack(front of trailer ,rear of truck) while tongue was connected before hooking the bars .

Yeah, now you know the games the manufacturers pull when they list tow ratings. The 6500lb tow rating means almost nothing when you consider the GVWR of the vehicle itself. And aren't you lucky to have such a low tongue weight! Boats are better but campers tend to have a higher than 10% tongue weight.

Everyone should be weighing their tow rigs when hooked, but most people just blindly think the tow weight is all they need to worry about.

You shouldn't have to raise the trailer with the jack while connected. That only applies to heavier trailers. Your trailer is fairly light and you could probably pull it with a WD. Just hooked your trailer up normally with all the weight on the truck and then use the cheater bar to snap up the chains. Watch a few videos on how to make the correct measurements on the truck to know if you have the proper WD amount. Too much WD can be very dangerous.

Someone please help me out! My wife and I drove past an Airstream trailer for sale a little while ago going to dinner. I didn’t stop because I thought it would be 25k easy. We stopped on the way home and it was $11,900. 1962 globe trotter in excellent condition. Am I crazy thinking that is a very good price?

Not as cool as all these travel trailers. Hope to have one someday. For now this is my first time towing with this truck. Got a new Cub Cadet after my 19 year old Scott’s finally bit the dust.

Nice trailer but man that's old. It also probably weights a ton. Actually way more than a ton.

I haven't been on here in a while. We had a baby in March and haven't towing since Christmas. Just made it to my mother in laws house. Parked her head in because we are sleeping inside the house tonight!

Doesn't seem to be the case. I set my odb2 bluetooth connector up with Torque and am now pulling trans temps. I can say for sure it spikes when going downhill in neutral, or when engine braking downhill in 2 and 3rd. The temperature spikes quickly as if its unlocked.

After some trips pulling my boat around, I'm only hitting 220 as a high, and that usually cools back down to 200 or 210 within 30 seconds of finishing a hill and going back to 4th. Oddly enough coasting down a hill doesn't help temps much, because of the effect of it being unlocked while engine braking is taking place.

Surprisingly, the stock trans cooler hasn't been too bad for me. That's with the 5,000 lb boat / trailer, 2 passengers and a driver. Didn't weigh it this time, but I would have been near my gvwr on the truck for sure, just like I was last time I weighed it. It probably helps that I'm in Michigan, with little elevation change, but yesterday was hot, at about 85 while we were towing. I haven't had a chance to try on any hotter day.

The transmission only locks the converter in 4th, 5th, and 6th. 1-3 are always unlocked, that's why TF2 spikes in 2nd and 3rd gear

If it really is excellent sounds good. Here's a comp http://www.airstreamclassifieds.com/ads/1962-airstream-globetrotter-19-california-2/

You'll have to go through it, hookup city water, fill the fresh tank, run all the taps, fill the fresh/grey tanks, see if there are leaks. Run the water heater, hookup AC, check the interior AC and DC outlets. Run the furnace, hookup the truck see if the exterior lights work, etc, etc.

Good info, thanks. I thought I had read before the Aisin autotrans only lock in the top gears. Also, thought I had noticed with the 5-spd A750F that when I manually drop to 4th it seemed locked initially, and would unlock periodically judging by the RPM change.

I rarely keep it in 5th, even with the 4.7's torque it cycles too much from locked to unlocked. I suppose I could put a TF temp gauge to good use. Each of the auto's I've bought I had a full flush-n-fill done with Toyota WS fluid.

BTW, I wouldn't have bought a 4Runner with the 4.0l, it doesn't have the tow package like Tacomas. ClassIII hitch, trans oil cooler is inside the radiator, smaller 100A alternator. Only the 4.7l 4Runners have a tow package like the Tacoma, ClassIV hitch, 130A alternator, external trans cooler.

That's what I found out. Truck would have to drop to 3rd to get up the mountain passes and the trans temp would spike even with the Toyota cooler and aftermarket cooler. I gave up and now drive a manual.

What temperatures were you seeing? I'm in a third gen and I hit 235F normally and about 210F if I have the thermostat pinned open. If you had a second gen then you had no thermostat

Sorry, these are post converter temperatures. Pan was always lower. I also have a big aftermarket cooler in line with the stock cooler
