I am looking for a tailgate pad for my 2nd gen Tacoma, show off your tailgate pads for mountain bikes and help me decide :)

Also can you use original Dakine pad and make it work with backup camera or only DLX works?

Racey McRaceface is the king in Utah. Damn near every truck around here has one on the tailgate from April to October.

I went with Dakine DLX small. I like how it fits, works with backup camera etc. It feels like it was built for Tacoma. What I don't like is how it flips back, not the slickest solution/design/look, but I can live with it, as I don't keep cover on my truck all the time - it doesn't work with tonneau cover and unfortunately I don't ride that often (something I have to fix).

Anyone have issues closing a tonneau cover with their pad still installed? I was thinking of getting one and just leaving it installed "year-round".

I have an older version of the large size Dakine pad on my truck. Full tail gate covered, no light coverage and a little wrap around the edge on the inside of the bed.

Why don’t y’all just lay your bike in the bed? I’ve never understood this process.

DCSB + full suspension + medium sized frame + 29er = doesnt fit... least it doesnt in my truck.

I thought about a tailgate pad for a bit, but 99% of the time its just my bike so i stand it upright and swing the ass end over and strap it down via the handlebars like you would a dirtbike. cost, free as i already have straps n soft ties from the dirtbikes.

My Lg 29er fits fine in the DCSB, laid down with handlebars turned (so front wheel is upright, if that makes sense).

I think for a single bike this is fine. For multiple bikes the tailgate pad makes sense

I find it extremely hard to believe a bicycle doesn’t fit in the bed of your truck.
My mountain bike (full suspension, medium frame) fits in my DCSB with plenty of room to spare. Like, enough room for 5 more bikes. Then again, I’m not concerned with getting minuscule scratches on a bike I ride off road 95% of the time.

I ride an XL and have a 6 foot bed and even then my bike is technically too long for the bed without turning the bars and having it bounce around, and watching 6k float around in the bed of your truck isn't really that cool. Also shuttling with 3 - 6 people and bikes there isn't any other good way to do it.

You're gonna sit here and tell me you're ok with your shit getting unnecessarily thrashed? Why not use a cheap method to keep your bike in good shape and not worry about a rack that is limited to 2 or 4 bikes or just laying your shit in the bed? How do you store URBIKETHATSUCKS?

Yeah my trek fuel ex 7 29er just BARELY fits if you lay it down like this. but the way i have my controls the bars rest on the rail of my roll up tonneau all weird. Just as easy to stand it up and use 2 straps like a dirtbike, No rubbing anything, no flopping around etc.... I like to keep my things nice unlike @URBIKESUCKS ... dude must be fun at parties.
