Weighing the differences between the Leer 100XR and A.R.E. CX Classic and finding lots of pics of the CX on 2nd gen Tacomas, but not finding as many of the 100XR. Would love to see good pics of the 100XR on some 2nd gens.

Also, interested to know a bit of detail regarding the shocks on the rear hatch. The shocks on the CX rear hatch hold the window until it's maybe 25% closed. If you release the window at this point, it falls the rest of the way. I looked at only one 100XR and the shocks held the rear window all the way up and down so that you actually have to push the window closed for it to latch. In other words, the shocks seemed stiffer on the 100XR. Hopefully that description makes sense... wondering how it operates for people who have the 100XR on 2nd gens.

The first thing I added to my 2015 DCLB is a Leer 100XR. After about 8 years my shocks felt a little weak so I replaced them with Supa C16-14195'a which seemed to be as close to original as I could find.

I recall someone recently posted a thread trying three different shock length/variations. The 'stock' one opened the glass the same as mine, the shorter one didn't open the glass as far, and the longer one opened it too far and it hit the shock.

I have to push the glass all the way down to close it, it doesn't fall on its own.

Thanks @Dogota, very helpful! In fact, that's the exact color I was hoping to see. Digging through hundreds of pages of posts about toppers for various models and truck generations was getting pretty aggravating.

Eight years doesn't seem bad considering the shocks are warrantied for only one year (I think). Did my description of the shocks make sense? Do your shocks hold the window all the way down so that you actually have to push it closed?

I've only had mine about 8 months. So far, no issues.

Thanks @DexterMagnus! You get it new or used? Do the shocks for your rear window work how we're describing?

Yes! That's a simpler way of describing it. Mostly, I like that it doesn't slam shut compared with the CX cap.

I'll bookmark that link. Will be really useful should I decide to play with the shocks.

I bought it new. And yes, the rear window shocks work as described.
