Some early season fun (early here in upstate NY) on the BFS gear yesterday! A couple on a 1/4oz Booyah Pond Magic Spinner with a Dark Wolf Ultra on a Mavllos Delicacy rod, and 5 more on the good ole Ned rig using a Curado BFS reel strapped to an Ace Hawk CU Double.

Just curious, are you left handed or right handed but like to reel left handed?

I'm right-handed but prefer to work my rod with my right hand. This is brought forward from years of using a spinning rod in the same manner.

Same here. Working the bait with the dominant hand just makes sense.

Gotcha. I cant use a spinning rod for crap because it feels all wonky. I know you can (generally) switch the handle to the other side but who has time for that.

With the advent of BFS, I've largely moved away from spinning gear anyway. I'm much more accurate with casting gear, so it's become my preference for most techniques now.

I’ve bolted some stuff to it *lists cool stuff here*
To my fishy parents, I have a 3 & 5 year old. They like to go fish with dad from the bank and my son has even been on the boat with grandpa in the fall a few times. Those who have tried to do some serious fishing while also watching one or two youngsters know that it can be challenging, not to mention fast running bodies of water are a bit scary..

so I’ve been trying to shift gears a bit and dedicate some time to do more like lake and pond fishing that is a little more mellow (not that im not teaching but it’s a little hard to twitch a salmon jig at 5 or understand we are plunking and can’t just reel in etc.)

anyway what youth style rods did you start with?

Do I just buy snoopy poles?

Not that I’m looking to break the bank but I think I would prefer to spend maybe even a little more to buy something of some quality with the idea it might last a bit and be suited for some learned techniques as he grows. (the 3 year old might only be interested in Elsa but that’s okay) more so my son, 5 turning 6 in not too long.. any thoughts?

Stay away from the snoopy style closed face reel rods. You'll get a season or so out of them. Just spend a little bit more and get a spinning set up. It will last longer and they can grow into it more. We did the snoopy/barbie/frozen rod deals and it was a waste of money.
