Just getting started...this project is gnarly.

 

What mounting plate did you use? Looks clean and I’m still shopping for the right one. I may end up making one.

I used the Paranoid Fabrications mount and cut holes to fit the 80A panel mount the breaker.

 

I'm getting closer to finishing up... The coiled up wires are for rock lights.

 

Been lurking this thread for a while. Lots of inspiring setups here - enough that I started my own panel.

I configured my setup to maximize the number of relays I can fit on my panel but the problem is the relay prongs are really close to my fuse terminals. I'm having a hard time making the shortest connecting wire from the relay to the fuse block (circled in green). Basically the width between these two junctions is about the length of the 2 connectors I'm using (a spade and a ring terminal). The multiple iterations of connecting wires I've tried to solder together for this particular slot look ridiculous. Anyone want to brainstorm with me on how to make this as clean as possible?



Things I thought up:
1. Change the order of the wires terminating on the fuse block so that they're as long as possible (just doesn't look as clean).
2. Cut the metal mounting plate connected to each relay and back them up against the sidewall. Use epoxy instead of the screw. This will increase the distance enough I think.
3. Don't use crimp terminals for this pin (use them on the other 3 pins). Just solder the wire directly to each terminal and shrink wrap over. This will make the wire a little more flexible without the rigid crimp terminal.
4. Rage quit.

Leaning toward 2. Or 4.

 

How about bending the tabs on the relay so the pins point up.

 

I think that's a winner! I'll give that a shot and see how it looks.

 

Just be careful bending the tabs as one of mine broke. I used servo tape to hold that one.

 

Why not a right angle spade and do a nice bundle of all the relay wires straight down and around to the left side.

 

That's a good idea. The issue with that pin is that it's straight up and down, though. It'd make contact with the bottom of the bracket if I used a 90. I think I'm going to mount the relays upright like what Stuart suggested. I'll get some bigger heat shrink and shrink the whole terminal + relay pin to make it look like a clean connection to the relay. I'll report back with a draft.

 

Theres actually a great location in the right front corner. You could actually squeeze more in there if you wanted.

That’s exactly what I want to do. Did you make those brackets or did you buy them?

 

I made them. I make all my brackets from cheap mild steel. I am very much a minimalist, just get it tight and supported on corners. Takes 5 minutes to bend in a vice, drill and sand. Then a few coats of paint and done.

 

I think I’ll have to do that if I want to add 2 more. Good looking out!

Experimented with putting the relay straight up in the air and I think I like it! I ran out of tubing for the ring terminal but I’ll cover that during the final install. I’ll have to make the arch a bit bigger (just cut the final version longer) to fit the other terminals on the relay but overall should look clean.

 

Some serious close-quarters wiring, but got it done tonight. Just waiting on my battery cables and switches and then I’ll start working on the switch harness. Should be all done soon.

Switches are all done + switch harness. Now just waiting on battery cables. Should’ve just built the battery cables myself... The wait sucks.

 

I am finalizing the wiring on my fuse block and noticed that the Blue Seas block has a 30 amp limit per circuit. My ARB single compressor is a 40 amp. Should I wire this directly to the battery with an in line fuse?
