Would love to see peoples DIY sleeping platforms for the back of their trucks. I am getting a shell soon and would love to build one. Feel like I have to search far and wide to find pictures of them.

Fat Bob's lift kit, 30's on stock steelies, lunchbox locker in the rear, and a ton of other general mods and additions to help the utility of the truck for my particular uses.

Here is mine that I have finished stage 1 of.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/building-my-bed-platform.497053/

I didn't want the added weight and bulkieness if a wood system that I see most people use.
As of right now I just have 2 plastic totes designed to go under beds, but I am in the process of welding up full size pull out drawers.

I have been very happy with the deck so far.

Really simple sleeping area I made before a camping trip. Bought an old bed frame and cut it down and modified it to be used as a sleeping platform. Comfy when you have added padding on top of it and keeps you warm/dry atleast. Can store stuff underneath it as well

Nicely done. Those bed frames can be found on CL for under $25. Even free sometimes.

That was the best part. Picked up the bed frame used off Kijiji for $40 CAD. Had a few scrap pieces of 3/4" OSB for the wood backing, and bought some cheap carpetting from Home Depot for $15 CAD or so. Super cheap all in all, and with the cap its actually pretty comfortable. I swear the most expensive part of the build was the 6-7 SawZall blades I absolutely destroyed cutting through the thick-ass steel cause I couldnt find a grinder haha... Had to cut it down a bit to make it fit properly. Didnt realize how expensive those decent quality metal milwaukee cutting blades were at depot. Ran like $50 just for blades that the frame ate up in 10 minutes

Frame isnt getting used very much though. I only slept in it once. For some reason it didnt occur to me during the build that a 5ft bed frame wouldnt be super comfortable for a guy whos 6'1. Spending the whole night not being able to move or straighten your legs out gets old pretty quick. Making me wish I had of gotten the long bed now haha. The build was a fun process none the less though!

I made a platform for a road trip my wife and I took this past summer. It was completely budget-friendly. I used whatever plywood and lumber I had laying around from other projects. It worked and served its purpose. And it came out nicely (due to my OCD). The only thing I bought for it were $6 dollar storage bins from Wal-Mart. When/If I do it again, I will use a bed frame like you. Strength, not bulky, and cheap.

When I first bought my truck almost 17 yrs ago, I went back and forth with getting an ExtraCab or DoubleCab. The deciding factor for the ExtraCab were the full length bed and the manual transmission. Plus, I was going from an '89 Toyota pickup with a regular cab & bed. I am glad I stuck with the ExtraCab.

I'm only 5'8" and my wife is 5'9". We feel cramped in the bed. I couldn't imagine the feeling of being taller in a shorter bed.
