I am running a 2021 Taco as an Overlander. Sorta. Got a lift, awning, tent, skids, lighting etc.

Still have the factory TRD OffRoad wheels. I think it’s time to level up. New tires are needed next year and some UCA’s but I think wheels would cure some FOMO.

I’m aware I could run 17’s and bigger but I like the larger amount of rubber on the trail when wired down.

I was going into my wheel and tire upgrade with the same thinking as you. I wanted to stay with 16” wheels. Once I saw the amount of options in 17 vs 16 I went with 17s. I also
Upsized the tires about an 1.5”. I went with some Kansei wheels and wildpeak at3.

Random stuff. Oh! and converted to non ADD 4x4.
Only buy shit that will give you performance over looks. A good example of performance is bead locks, bead grips or those icon bead stud lock ones. My 704’s are the dark grey color. Cheers!

Stayed oem size too. Selection is very limited but these Fast HD Recon wheels fit like a champ and look great imo.

Yah I have considered 17’s a bunch … but the extra clearance means not fitting into the garage … by an 1/8 of an inch. Haha.

Yeah, my truck is a driveway truck due to the fact the 85 4Runner takes up the garage spot. I understand though, I really wanted to stick to 16s just not as many options.

Headed down the same trail so to speak. Want to keep my 16 inch tires since I just bought a set of Toyo A/T IIIs. I'd like black/bronze wheels as well... think it'd look good with our red Taco and kind of match the bronze TOYOTA on the Trail Edition grill I installed. I really like the TRD Pro bronze/black wheels but in all the months I've been looking they rarely appear and are always stupid expensive (IMHO ;)) when they do.

May end up with these DX4 bead locks in Matte Bronze with Black Ring from Discount Tire:

yah. That “out of control” expensive part is always the turn off. Lol.

I can’t have headlock where I am (laws). But I also doubt most people would know or notice unless they were glaringly so.

Headlock? Agreed, that's generally a bad thing.

Or did you mean bead lock? FWIW the bead locks are ornamental, not real. But you probably knew that. ;) Back in the day I used to work with a guy that built a dragster ('65 Plymouth Fury) that had real bead locks. They were small bolts drilled through the wheel into the tire bead to keep the tires from spinning on the wheels (or really vice-versa) when the green light lit up. Due to the multiple holes in the tires they had to have inner tubes. I'm guessing a lot of folks have no idea what the "bead locks" on today's wheels even represent, other than "bling".
