Should I care about damage on my MOAB trip?

I have a DCSB 2020 TRD OR. Im driving from LA through MOAB to pick up a high clearance front and rear bumper in Colorado. The problem is im going to have to do all of my off roading before the install of those bumpers on my next trip. Should I worry about damage to my bumpers/rear quarter panels if going to to be doing a lot of chopping when I get back? So Im running 295/75/16s with a 2.3 inch lift in the front and about a 3 inch in the rear with sliders and skids. Im trying to do Hells Revenge and Top of the World. Should I need to worry about damage if I know Im chopping it when I get back to LA? Also should I get 35s before I go for the extra clearance?

Both pretty easy trails, I wouldn’t be worried about getting any damage.

I would say if you are worried about getting damage dont take it offroad. As careful as one would hope they would be theres always a chance with living with scars. But hell if your going to replace some components give er hell man!!!! A lot of us bought these trucks to enjoy them and test their capabilities. Enjoy your trip. I drove through Moab coming from Phoenix to Denver. Didnt have time to check out any trails but just from the culture and the vehicles I saw their it seems to be an offroaders paradise.

I get what you are saying. Im not worried about mild damage I can fix or if I do damage some suspension damage. Im mainly concerned about the back quarter panel being more than I can chop off.

The trails in Moab are pretty open with bypass around most hard obstacles, it would be hard to get body damage unless you are doing obstacles that you shouldn’t be on.

^ This. I've been running trails, mostly North of Moab annually for the past 12 years or so in an air-cooled VW Dune Buggy with minimal damage. Some of the major trails I've run in that car are: Gemini Twins, Mineral Bottom, Shaffer Trail, Chicken Corners, the back road into Arches, Potash Rd, Tusher Tunnel. All of them I could easily do with minimal risk of damage in my Taco, although Chicken Corners has one rough area and Tusher Tunnel requires driving some fairly deep sand.

Most (but not all) of the hard-core, 'damage is likely' trails are just outside of town in the Sand Flats recreation area. I've not done much exploring in that area.

Have a great time! I'm generally there 4-5 days and never seem to see everything I want to.

    Somewhere on Potash Rd.

I worry more about damage to Moab and the surrounding area. Have a nice trip, and clean as you go.

Check out Manti La Sal area. I don't know which way you're taking but. The La Sal range straddles the Utah Colorado border.

When it comes to hells revenge it really is not too bad, like everyone said, lots of bypasses and pretty open. Obviously stay the trail and drive smart and you shouldnt have any trouble. Only spots on top of the world that you might have issue is if you take the loop around from the top instead of going directly back the way you came in. There are some good rocks and decent drop offs that may hang your rear bumper up and do some damage. Honestly, I would pull the stock rear bumper before you even go.... less plastic crap to clean up and pack out if you do smack the rear corners of the bed, at least if you do that you could resell the bumper and caps if you wanted to. If you crush them they wont be worth much anyway and if you're going to ditch them I would just pull it preemptively.

I was just out there with a stock Tacoma and 4runner in May, and they were able to make it through both trails relatively unscathed. Helps to have good spotters on both and know when to take the easier line. I thought Top of the World was the more technical of the two, like mr.rick said the downhill part of the loop is probably the most likely spot to take out a rear bumper corner or bedside, I was on my hitch/skids/sliders quite a bit but that was it (I'm stock height with 33's). We ended up stacking a lot of rocks on the decent for some of the bigger ledge dropoffs. Also a good idea to hit the trail earlier in the day, I wouldn't want to be caught coming down in the dark. Hell's Revenge has plenty of bypasses, although there was a rocky section near the end of the trail that could catch you off guard if you're not paying attention. I wouldn't worry about doing any damage beyond what you would cut for high clearance bumpers, unless you really get squirrely (I had the same concern, and all I damaged was my stock rear bumper corner chrome cap, on Fins N Things of all trails). Good luck! Top of the World was incredible.

Treat the area lightly, there is concern about the environment there being torn to shreds and
some want to close it off completely. I'd settle for limited exposure to the area with permits etc
over completely closing these areas and it may come to either one.

    I think Moab in general.
Some people are going after Sedona as well.

OTV's are generally the most disturbing as they are ripe for ripping and roaring off-trails and
destroying habitat and environment, but an issue for one is an issue for all.

Hells revenge and top of the world are among the easiest trails in Moab. Can probably run them stock of you wanted without damage. Your hitch will absorb most of the ledges. I wouldn’t worry about it.

It's almost half what the bumpers cost to ship them freight, and dealing with freight shipping is a hassle.

I assume he's taking Rimrocker from Moab to Montrose, and it is one of the most beautiful trips you can take. It's worth buying something from Warfab just to take the trip there to pick it up.

I think really depends on how you drive, but I think you have the most important areas already covered with sliders and skids. You will likely drag your hitch over a few rocks, but it’s rather sturdy. I don’t have steel bumpers yet either. The plastic on my stock bumpers is all busted up, but the areas above them are fine. When I get around to upgrading my bumpers I should be good.

You can't 'just add 35s for clearance'. That's a whole can of worms you don't want to open. It's one thing it you're driving on thale street but off-roading and flexing with 35s and not tuning your whole front end around them is going to make for a really bad time.
