Anyhow I normally buy new tires every year from the same shop. This year they went crazy with prices. $350 for Wildpeaks AT and about the same for the Cooper ST pros. TBH I have been eyeing the 285 75 16 Falken Rubitreks on Amazon at $200. The plan would be to have a solid offroad tire for my trip to Utah from NY. thanks

I've done it. The reviews all say to double check the date codes. Mine were all two months old on delivery, which was great.

Use your own shop to mount them.

Amazon sent me to Sears. They worked hard to invent entirely new ways to fuck up a mount job.

    ...

Better yet, print the page and take it to discount. They'll match it and it will save you on servicing them down the road.

be forewarned... some shops will not mount your tires you bring them. or they will charge you an astronomical fee to mount them. if you have any problems with them not balancing... it will be on you, not the shop to get another one. stepping over a dollar, to pick up a dime. your results may vary. Some shops won't let you buy tires if the speed rating is off by a letter, not mentioning the size.
Buying from Amazon does require to run a math..

I would just buy them from discount tire. They usually have pretty good sales on tires and if u don’t like them they will take them back .I just checked my local discount they have the wildpeakes for 205 a tire oem size so might go up a little if u are going bigger . They will price match most of the time .

Agreed with ^^^^^^. Message Discount Tire on here and set it up. I had my tires delivered to a discount tire shop in Wyoming before a trip out there. No sense putting miles on the tires on the way out. And it’s nice know that you’re covered as there are discount tire shops all over.

If one of the tires they order for you is crap they will get you another one.

Another vote for PMing @Discount Tire. Joe just took care of me this week with a price match for wife's rig. It was such an easy transaction that it is the only way I will buy tires again. PM'd him on Monday. Ordered tires on Tuesday. They were installed on Wednesday by lunch.

I'll need new tires for my Taco early next year. DT earned my business.

I had a customer get tires from Amazon for his suburban, one of them had a noise and vibration issue, nothing that could be noticed prior to mounting and balancing. He ended up having to pay for another mount and balance plus time lost to get it done and the headaches of return shipping. I forget what specific brand they were but it was a pretty common tire. Can't say how often these issues come up but it was the only set someone ever had shipped to me through Amazon. If all works out it's great, but even one having a fault could be an unnecessary headache.

If you do have a local discount tire or americas tire, they will price match Amazon.
Also you mention Falken Rubitrek AT’s….
Discount tire and I believe America’s tire do not list carrying the Rubitreks. I also read that Discount tire and America’s tire could not get the Rubitreks. Well I just ordered some from my local Discount tire (South Texas) and they also price matched Sam’s club’s price. Actually just had them installed today. Very good looking tires! I’ve had Wildpeaks in the past so after driving on these a few miles, I can give some comparisons. The ride home from installation was smooth and very quiet for how aggressive they look.

Yeah I thought they finally went down like the Titanic after trying to rearrange the deck chairs too long. They were good for batteries tires and tools back in the day but all the store in 50+ miles are gone now.

I'd actually recommend Walmart for tires. That's where I got the Cooper discoverer AT tires that I have on my truck. Your mileage may vary depending on how good your local Walmart auto center is and truthfully they vary in my area.
What I did after I found at the time was a great deal on the website was look at the online reviews for the stores near me and then ordered them sent to the store in Shrewsbury pa that have the best online reviews. They did an excellent job with my Tacoma and I've been back several times to that location for them to rotate and rebalance them. Never an issue.
Of course the lifetime tire service is good at any location. However I tried to go to a different closer Walmart once for a rotation and they said after 5,000 miles it didn't need done because my tires looked great. Duh I want it done to keep them wearing good, they were just too lazy to do it so I will only go to the Shrewsbury one in my area.

Interesting, up here in Canuck land there are hardly any options for tires on Amazon, and the few I saw shipped from the US and were really $$

Walmart won’t install anything but a stock size tire on vehicles. Went down that road a few years ago.

^^^^^ This exactly in my area. 5 years ago I bought 12.5 x 35 Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ's for my 1983 Toyota pickup online, don't remember from who, saved almost $100 a tire over what I could buy local, they were on sale and had a rebate. No local shop would mount since they didn't supply. Finally, 3 months later, had a friend of a friend who worked at one of the tire shops go in on a Saturday, say they were his, and his boss let him mount them. Wouldn't do it this way again, too much of a pain in the a**.

I got my current set of tires from Amazon and have no complaints about that part. The dealership mounted them for me. They've got 80k on them now and are ready to be replaced. I'm probably going with my dealership for the replacement set though just because they'll be having a sale here in October.

My local Firestones and Big O tires will install your own tires without any questions for a moderate fee ($5-10 more per tire)
