Should I buy the 2022 Tacoma TRD Off-Road or wait for the 2023 Tacoma TRD Off-Road

So I'm getting a new car and my family and I have decided to buy a Toyota Tacoma. We were looking into the 2022 and 2023 and we found out that the 2023 model might have a new designed similar to the Tundra 2022. But, it's not 100% sure and the redesigned model might come after the 2024 year as we saw on other articles. But, we need a car right now and we are wondering if it's worth the wait getting the 2023 in hopes of a redesign or just get the 2022.

No offense but you might not even be alive when the 2023 comes out. Get the 2022. If you really want the 2023 and still alive, trade it up for the 2023. Not sure about you but I think the current design looks pretty good.

I was in the same dilemma and was waiting for new taco or 4Runner. Then my daily driver tanked and had no choice. Lucky for me I found an Army Green trd off-road, MSRP, no mark up and went for it. Wish I would have done it sooner! I figure even if new models came out today it would take a while for me to even find one. So if you can find a 2022 with no mark up, do it! No mark up is the key though! They’re out there and none of us should be paying mark ups.

Many say it's usually not a problem.

My last two vehicles were "first year" models and neither had any issues and both went well over 200,000miles with no issue.

    I wouldn't say "never" personally.

I wouldn’t wait. Problem is you may have to wait though. Availability on these things are so scarce

Current rumors have the new Tacoma coming in 2024, not 2023.

Correct. 2023 should be the last of the 3rd gen. I’m waiting to see if inventory and pricing improves next year.

You can always buy a 2022 now and trade for a 2024 when the next Gen comes out, Tacoma's hold their value so you wont lose much.

Next gen is slated for Fall release 2023 as a MY 2024 from very reliable sources, 2023 maybe a new color and one other thing nothing drastically different from 2022, 2020 was the midcycle refresh, so buy now, or 2023 wont matter.

If the next gen is scheduled for release in the fall of 2023 then when will the 2023 come out?

The next gen will be '24, '23 will probably be another pretty lazy year in stuff. Then again, the 2015 was the first year of the Pro....Anyway, the last big year for the Tacoma was '20, with android/apple HUs and power seats, new grilles. Otherwise it's been pretty boring MY changes.

The next Tacoma will be a new chassis and powerplant, if they're going to do a shared Tundra platform. The turd gen was a carryover of the chassis almost completely, with a new powerplant, and even still the '16s and 17's had a TON of complaints about transmission programming and throttle response. No reliability concerns, but if drivability isn't there until a TSB in 2020 on a purchase in 2016, that's 4 years of shenanigans.

If you ask me - I'd stick to a turd gen. The drivability is a ton better, and who knows what the fourth gen brings with it. It's Toyota, so probably nothing unreliable, but I wouldn't want 4 years of crappy transmission programming and horrible driving characteristics, just my .02 cents.

    A few.
If nobody bought the first year model there wouldnt be a second year or any used ones.

Your covered by the 3/36 warranty if any problems do arise at no charge to you. Worst case it could be an inconvience to have to make a trip to the dealer.

Add me to this group. Did it with a GT350 and will never get a first year model again.

If you need a (new to you) car right now, buy what you can find and afford (and like). The next-gen is far off, and in these challenging times, nobody can predict was supply-chain / parts / issues will be, especially for a new model / generation.
