Should I buy 310k mile 2007 Tacoma? [DON'T BUY]

I have a line on a 2007 TRD Sport 4x4 Double Cab with 311k miles. A lift kit was added by a toyota dealer back at about 40k miles. Seller is asking for $9800, I could probably negotiate down to maybe $9k or $8k. This would be my first truck/tacoma.

Carfax shows good maintenance, consistent oil changes etc. I had a mechanic inspect it and it looks fine (just suggested tightening a hose)

Seems to drive alright and the interior and exterior appear to be in excellent condition. I looked at the frame for rust (seems fine) but I didn't crawl underneath to check.

    Other notes:
    • Transmission fluid flushed/changed at least twice in past, last time at 227k miles I think.
    • Timing belt and water bump recently replaced.
    • Where I live (North Idaho) they don't salt the roads so rust shouldn't get too much worse if there is any
    • I would double check the frame (actually crawl underneath) before making an offer.
    • It would be my daily driver which honestly (give last 4 years) I'd likely only put about 4k miles on it a year!

What do you think? Should I go for it?

I mostly concerned about having to replace the transmission soon. Although if replaced I could drive it for ages as long as everything else held together.

UPDATE: Thank you all for prompt advice. I'll pass on this one and keep looking for something with lower miles. Thanks!

pictures of underneth rust would help but with those miles I wouldn't even consider it.

No reason to buy a 300k mile 07 when there’s a bunch with lower miles for the same price or not much more and this is coming from someone that has a 315k mile vehicle - I put in a new engine, totally replaced steering and suspension and wheel bearings to make it run great but that was diy.

~$9K seams a lot to gamble. Buying a high mileage vehicle is very different from owning a high mileage vehicle.

I've read some parts are allready starting to get hard to find now. Passing on a 300,000 mile truck would be a no brainer.

300k truck with impeccable maintenance records and care, maybeeeeeeee 9k. But for 10k it better be garage kept and the frame clean enough to eat off, otherwise theres sentiment built into that price or that sounds like a wife said sell it and husband listed for a unsellable price.

With that many miles it’ll likely be a on going fix it project and money pit. Mileage is the killer of vehicles. Definite NO.

IF it was pretty much perfect (especially the frame) for *me* it might be a $5k truck.

Do you actually *need* a truck, or just want one?

I have a 2002 crv with 183k on it. It has been a lot of work to keep it road worthy. Brake lines rusting out, all new front end moving parts, rear main seal and a ton of other engine gaskets, all exhaust gaskets, all new brake calipers...the list keeps going, and I only replaced things that actually failed. I'm at the point now where I'm done chasing leaks and clunks and the next thing that goes will probably send it to the scrap yard. Point is, be ready to work on a vehicle that age/mileage and constantly chase down issues. If you had owned it since relatively new and stayed on top of things as they happened, that would be a different story. I use my Honda for around town stuff only. If you need reliable daily transportation, you could get a much better vehicle if you spent that on a Camry.

I'm creeping up on 300k on a truck I've owned since 80k, and I'm looking to put away a motor and trans while I can still get them from Toyota. That makes a certain amount of sense for me because this truck is reasonably built by this point and has been paid off for a very long time, so if it really comes down to it, 9-10k to keep it alive is worth it - but buying one for 9k and then having to do something huge to it would absolutely not be worth it.

I had to replace the engine on my 1994 SR5 4x4 at 311,000. I would pass.

Pass....too many other parts unseen that could surface and cost $$$$. Look around, much better deals out there.
