Hello all, this is my first post. I’m looking at purchasing a new Tacoma TRD Off Road trying to decide between the short and long beds. Besides the obvious cargo volume differences are there any differences in ride quality or for its on and off road abilities? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ride quality is the same. It's a little harder to maneuver the long bed vs the short bed.

Long bed is a little smoother on the highway because of the longer wheelbase. Feels a bit less nimble however.

If you are okay with the auto and are worried about lack of room in the short bed, go long bed. Yeah, it's long but most trucks are longer.

Ooooooohhh I LOVE these threads :D
The long bed is like driving the Oscar Meyer weinermobile. Don't bother. You can fit everything you need in the shortbed for ~$625 less with some tie downs or a bed extender. Plus the short bed is better off road. :duel:

    Now let the FUN begin!

Probably wont notice a difference in the ride but does take a bit more thought when in tight areas. All depends on what you are used to, if you rode the short bus in school probably would be best to stick with a short bed. These threads are always good so I thought I would try and get em going.:curls:

I guess in part of your decision making is the type of cab you want, i.e. AC vs DC might be part of your consideration. Arguably many that do heavy duty off roading might not select a DC long bed due to length when negotiating tight terrain. Do you intend to carry passengers at times ?, do you haul stuff ? I just replaced my 2011 Nissan Frontier DC which had a short bed. In my case I hardly ever used the back seat but wished more times that I had a longer bed. I now have the new Taco which is an AC Long bed and for my purposes I'm loving it. All versions are absolutely great, you'll just have to weigh out your personal situation and needs. Just my two cents

I have a long bed, and let me tell you…I don’t have transmission fluid problems, shift problems, no surging issues, no shudders, no buzzing, no dry U-joints, no loose U-bolts, no misaligned bed, cab, or tail gate…hmm..Did I miss anything?
Oh yeah, It rides like a caddy, parks like a caddy, handles like a caddy.
Moreover, I can load my bike like a real truck, no strap-on extension needed hehe!
And yeah, and I can off-road just as good or better than a Raptor, and I could carry a bison if I could get it up in there too. Smitty, eat your heart out lolo!
    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

Just got this one - it's a work in progress.....
I'm on my third Tacoma (07, 09, 16). My first two were double-cab short beds. I always swore by the short bed. My 2016 is a double-cab long-bed. I only got it because it was on the dealer's lot and got a great deal. But now........I'll never go back. Like the long bed way better. I don't really notice any difference in the ride or the handling - it feels the same. However the bed is much more usable. I couldn't even put my bicycle in the short bed without keeping the tailgate down. There is a huge difference in the versatility of the bed (and I can camp in it more comfortably)!

If a DCLB 4x4 with Tow only was readily available for $500 more of what I paid for mine, I would have gotten one for the extra cargo room. Day to day, I would rather have the DCSB as I think they look better and they are easier to move around. I'm not disappointed with what I got though.... Kinda 6 in one, half dozen in the other.
