I guess my first task is going to be break out the pressure washer and super clean juice and wash where that old Dodge left its marks
Cousin Mike told me yesterday evening he went out and see a big leak of fluid in his driveway. I figured the worst...something transmission but he said power steering hose :facepalm:20220829_070807.jpg

This vice has been tight for some time and this morning I had to use a hammer to move it. Time for a cleaning. I thought it was the threads and coolant build up in there but after getting that off the handle was still tight. The thrust bearing hasn’t had grease since it was new. Moves freely now.

Just in case, thrust bearing is $3.92 https://www.mcmaster.com/5909K36/

I've never greased the thrust bearings on our two vise either. But I do keep the threads exceptionally clean and lubricated and the rear jaw adjust so it's snug.
Power wash portion of the driveway then figure change the oil. I didn't see a drain plug on this thing!
My eyes aren't what they used to be or something or maybe just meant to do the old drain through the dipstick hole:confused:

Swappin’ out bridge sections on the Big curve. About half or better East/West rail traffic passes that point.

Watching them work on the rail is neat. There's a track in front of the shop, a few years ago they were replacing some ties and I watched them setting them out with a mini hoe in a train car. That car got empty and he drove the hoe into another train car while it was moving :eek::eek:

Got to work at 0040 and missed all the traffic. Slept in the truck for a few hours, it was a mad house later. Coworkers normal 30 minute drive took 4 hours.

Try again on Friday. We'll see....

As with a lot of things in a throw away society, it's probably like those mowers that say never change oil, just add.

An oil extractor makes nice work of those small engines, I even use it on my rider to cut down on the mess.

Filter still makes a mess, but ehh, still easier

I agree I hate that never change the oil sticker. It might as well say just buy another mower when this one dies from lack of maintenance!:spending:

I tend to view things like that and the "No User Serviceable Parts Inside" type stickers as a challenge.

Any love for old Chevy Trucks?

    https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/l-Used-Chevrolet-R-V-3500-Sacramento-d756_L2795#listing=324017352

This is my sister's truck. Sis is 72, still riding horses, but sold her horse trailer and down to one horse. It's a big block, 454. It sucks gas and not much power. Tempted to drop in a Vortec 8.1 crate engine, but I'm better off keeping the Tacoma and getting a 6x12 trailer for those times I need to haul *light* cargo.

Her husband bought it new. He passed a few years back (He rolled in his Jeep, broke his neck, and Sis survived). Her son is handling the sale.

I think it would be easier to sell in Texas (higher demand for old Chevy's), but with Patina and size not in demand in California. Dually are nice when hauling horse trailers! I keep thinking of building a 10x30 tiny home, so with a fifth wheel, this would be ideal for moving it!

If that made it's way over here to the east coast it would bring way more than that
