Good morning guys. I’m hoping to get the grass mowed at the wife’s shop today but we had a pretty good storm come through last night. Her side lot tends to hold water because of drainage issues so it might no happen today. I normally stagger my mowing over several days but with my brother visiting, then an Aunt and now dealing with regular afternoon storms it’s got me kind of jammed up.

    Sometimes I think I might .

Just random encounters my luck runs like that. It has gotten me out of school and work so it did have some benefits.

Nothing like walking to the shop in the wee hours and encountering a skunk or having a Dog that is trying to kill them all the time.

When staining larger areas, you gotta have a plan lol. Here are a few examples of larger stained builds I did
    20210826_210124.jpg 20190919_235212.jpg
Humidity and temperature are huge factors when staining and polyurethane coatings. For example, when I finish the bowls today I will have to work fast because it's hot and humid. It will be 85 in the shop. In the winter at 60 in the shop, I have a lot more time. But, at 60, I will have more bubbles in the polyurethane so I will have to use the torch to pop them. Not so much in hot weather.
It's like everything... Experience is the best teacher.
I know from experience that two good hand rubbed coats of stain on the bowls will work. I also know that two brush (Purdy is the brand I use) coats of polyurethane, with 600 grit wet sanding by hand in between coats will give me the finish and sheen I desire.
I will post pics of the process and maybe It will help someone down the road.

Thank you very much for the compliment. However, if you have a wood burning stove I could heat your house for a week with my mistakes.

Maybe that is why I loved working with Metal most mistakes can be fixed or reconfigured.

Same with my wife's crocheting. Don't like it or it's not coming out right? Just pull it apart and try it again.

Made up! I read about different mixtures and just added what I had on hand. Two of the young ones didn’t like it at all when I sprayed it under the deck. About 30 minutes later the momma came out with all three young ones following, straight under the yard barn. I’m hoping between the spray under the deck and the train horn being blown 10-15 times under the yard barn they won’t come back. I’m also gonna throw a couple bars of Irish Spring soap under the deck and yard barn.

“The sign of a good craftsman is the ability to identify and fix mistakes,” me just now but I’m sure someone more credible earlier.

That saying has been around it seems forever!.

I heard it back in the sixties .

instead of craftsman you can use any trade instead.

Seeing that you have a relief, I can understand. If, like mine (no relief), then my suggestion becomes more valid. The end result is attaining no additional depth profile.

Thank you for the clarification. Those would not work in this application as the taper is too "long". The plastic bases are not that thick.

Not sure about skunks, but some critters DO NOT LIKE human hair… beard, head. Get some from a barber and throw around to see if it helps. Maybe?

Ah, I’m used to more of the classic I guess. It’s been forever. I have a lot of the older overseas scale (1:43). Just FYI though, there are a lot of near-zero taper screws available due to laptops.

I’ve heard that from a few folks now. Never tried it myself. Few critters hang around here. Plenty of forest out back kinda keeps ‘em at bay.

I use pure coyote urine. It works for about everything. Pellet rifle works good too, pumped up about 3 pumps.

Put on my electrician hat today and switched out some rusting bathroom fixtures.
