I'm tired of snow getting between my cap & cab then thaw/freeze into blocks of ice that rattle around and do the paint no service during the winters. What are folks using to seal their caps to the cab?

Came across the following site. Thoughts?

    Thanks!

Haha don't get me wrong, I love the winters/snow. But its a major PITA to clear the roof of a DCLB and try to avoid dumping snow in the gap. Depending in what mother nature does, I've had ice blocks rattling around for a week+. Gets obnoxious hearing it and @ 70mi/day work commute its not doing the paint a lot of good.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
What cap do you have? I live in northern MN and never have ice chunk build-up between the cab and cap. Water and snow pass through there but nothing plugs up and stays there. I rarely even have to clean the glass between the two. Maybe it is the design of the cap?

Pool noodle wedged between the cap and cab might work. Cheap to in case it blows away lol.

Never had this issue with my ARE cap in Ohio though.

Its a Leer 100XL. Sides & top follow the cab's lines and while it looks like a giant scoop I don't see rain or snow getting directed down while driving. The issue is more of when I clear the roof, snow falls between. Wouldn't be an issue but the lower front lip of the cap overlaps the bedrail and results in a narrow gap of ~1".

My first two toyota pickups way back when had a boot on the front of the shell (no window) that sealed against the cab. Tell you this though. you had better but some clear bra or something similar on the cab, because fine grit and such that got on the boot wore through my paint in no time at all.

Oh I hear you on that one @mhornco! My 1st gen I went full bore moron: had a rack on the cap and mounted the wind defector on the forward bar but so that it's seal was on the cab--to help keep snow from going between the cab & cap even though it had a boot. Sometime later I discovered it'd worn to bare metal a perfectly straight line all the way across the cab from the difference in body flex.

Looking @ the 2nd picture & thinking a bit. Wonder if getting some rubber similar to what nearly seals the bed to the cab on the sides & putting that on the cap would help. Doesn't make contact but nearly fills the gap

I used some pipe insulation duct taped into a ring to seal between the cab and shell on a previous truck and it worked well. I had originally used a inflatable pool toy but when the temp dropped it would deflate enough it would slip out. I wanted the window openings sealed so my dog would get heat in the bed.
