So the fiancé and my self were driving downtown. Which at this time of the year is crazy busy due to the Calgary stampede, I was turning into a street when I heard this really weird sound that at first I couldn't pin point due to the radio going. It was super busy and couldn't pull over untill I got into a parking lot and when I opened the hood there was what I think was coolant or some other liquid all over the front of the engine bay and when I looked further the belt that should be on the alternator was not there and was wrapped up on it self at another pully. It was the better part of 30 degrees Celsius yesterday so I did have the A/C on, I quickly shut the whole HVAC and engine off once I noticed what happened. After looking about further I determined I could start it up again and move it and I will have you know the Tacoma is no fun in a parking lot with no power steering.
Thankfully Toyota roadside assistance was able to get a tow truck out to me at within 40 minutes of me calling during one of the busiest times of the summer in downtown. we got the Tacoma Towed back to cochrane Toyota where I will get a better idea for what the hell happened

That's not too reassuring. How many miles? Cold climate?

I Kant comment on the kms, but for the cold climate query, it's Calgary, wait 5 mins. It might be

OP, sux but if that's just a defective belt, it came apart in the right spot

Maybe one of the pulleys froze, that will shread and break a belt very quickly, had it happen before.

Will do! hopefully I'll have the Tacoma back soon. Also curious to see if I can get a service loaner. I have found info for Toyota USA but nothing on Toyota Canada about that. Untill then it's back to the old T4R haha

Well the dealership wasn't able to pin point a reason as to why the belt failed so early and everyone was scratching their heads. Fortunately my service advisor was awesome to deal with and did his best to keep me in the loop with what was going on. The belt was covered under warranty. I'm glad to be back in the Tacoma haha

I've never had a belt shred or come off that wasn't caused by something seizing up. Those belts are pretty resilient.

Hope that's the last of it for you.

Hopefully it was nothing more than just a defective belt if no pulleys were froze up.

Do you need to know, or care?
Cowtown thing, common during stampede. :D

Belts shred during pancake breakfasts, no reason for the corrallation.

op said there was coolant all over the engine bay, made me think it was the water pump that caused this. what did the dealer say about the coolant all over the place?
