Self cleaning injector noise

Hello,

I have a 2021 OR with 8k miles on it. I noticed a loud knocking noise today in traffic with my windows down. First time I’ve heard this. It wasn’t the normal ticking these engine make. I didn’t hear it again after stopping and idling a few more times. Could this have been the injector self cleaning cycle that I’ve read about?

Yes, that's what it is.

 

Yes it is, it can vary in volume, sometimes a soft tick, sometimes it sounds like a diesel tractor. Nothing to worry about.

It is funny, the most expensive vehicle I ever purchased is also the noisiest. Even my old mechanical lifter Dodge slant sixes were quieter when adjusted properly.

 

I just got a 21’ tacoma used with 4k miles on it. I hear some noises that would concern me in any other vehicle.

First my car shakes at idle (can see the passenger seat shaking). I’m told this is normal but wish there was a way to confirm it’s not something more.

Second, my transmission makes tapping/clicking noises when parked. Anyone know if that’s normal as well?

Toyota Tacoma, Tundra I gave my son my Tacoma and I have a tundra now, They just are amazing trucks. Some of the stories about the Holy Grail Toyota the Hi-lux cooking oil added, sounds crazy but stp oil treatmeant stopped a trans from slipping ( long enough to drive it ) but poured it in the trans filler and it worked

 

Question, this injector cleaning cycle is supposed to only come on for like 10 sec to 10 minutes at hot idle or hot engine. I hear mine ALL THE TIME immediately following basic warm up of engine. Is it possible that this function would continue to cycle on if the injectors actually need maintenance cleaning (the 3 point fuel injector cleaning from dealer) or has anyone notice this tapping cleaning cycle not consistently cycling on and off? It's driving me mad!

Same. Most expensive vehicle I've purchased. Not because it's any nicer or fancier than my previous vehicles (it isn't), just because of economics and inflation.

 

This is the only vehicle I ever made payments on (retirement truck), it never made any sense to me to make payments on something that sat in the parking lot at work all day when something old & cheap but reliable could sit there just the same.
