im looking for the best quality 6x8 speakers on a budget to replace the 4 speakers in my truck for a total budget of only $100 or less. I have no need for a new stereo at the moment so im just looking at upgrading speakers for now and I can upgrade to a better quality stereo later if need be.

I am not running an amp (and never will) so its only powered by a standard 60 watt (15x4) stereo unit without any built-in amp.

so please give me your thoughts on the best quality brands to buy and best sounding speakers for $50 a pair price range that don't need to be run off of or with an amp system.

second question, and part of the original question, should I get 2-way or 3-way speakers? it seams you don't even notice or can hear those extra tiny speakers anyway.

I don't have a clue about audio systems so I have no clue which brands are cheap crap and which brands are good names to buy

Pardon my ignorance, but the 2001+ used 6x8s all around? My 2000 takes 6.75 rounds all around.

well yes and I am going to be sound proofing the cab as discussed in the other thread, but I decided it doesn't make sense not to replace the oem speakers while im in there so....

    I was looking at:

Rockford Fosgate Prime R1682 6x8-Inch Full Range coaxial Speakers

    KICKER DS68 6x8" 2-Way Coaxial Car Audio Speakers 280 Watts Total 11DS68

    Pioneer TS-G6843R 6 x 8 In. 2-Way Speaker with 180 Watts Max. Power

but I have no idea if any of these are any good or not, even though the reviews seam to say they are good. the names do sound familiar from hearing them associated with quality audio systems but that as far as I know anything

well I don't know about 01-02 (these years were trying out a mix of old and new things so they differ from 03-04 in many ways) but yes the 03-04 have 2 6x8 in doors and 2 6x8 in the rears.

    thanks for the brand recommendations

I never heard of craigs list for buying new speakers before?????????

I can tell you a bought some 6.75 Pioneers similar to yours for about $35 on an Amazon warehouse deal, normally around $45. I also picked up a pair of Alpine 2-ways for $40 off craigslist, like new condition. Still in process of wiring everything so cant say more than that.

just go to bestbuy or a car stereo shop and listen to the speaker sampling machine they have. that's what i did and i ended up buying 4 speakers for like 50 bucks on amazon :-D they were like 100 at best buy. also, if you don't listen to CDs and have your music on a smart phone. buy a new media player like this one so you can integrate hands free calling and phone integration to your truck. i did it to my and my girls vehicles. it's awesome!

I just came upon these that seam too good to pass on unless someone has a reason to not buy them

JVC CS-J6820 6" X 8" Inch Car Audio Speaker 2 Way Coaxial Speaker (250 watts per pair, 125 watts x2)

I can get 2 pairs (4) of them for $60 and free shipping

isn't JVC a good brand? I think they were a long time ago

only thing i have to say is that your stereo only puts out about 55 watts per channel, so x4 = 220 max or so. it will work, but you won't be able to use them to their fullest potential unless you get 500w amp

trouble is they hardly make "any" speakers rated less ten 100 watts each

while these show 125 watts per speaker max they also show:

    • 6" x 8" J Series 2-Way Car Speakers
    • Power Handling:
    • Peak: 250 watts per pair / 125 watts each
    • RMS: 30 watts per pair / 15 watts each
so isn't that saying I can run them on as little as 15 watts per speaker?

so while im at the minimum of what I need to run them with the stereo I have now, later if I get a 150 watt stereo I would be good?

im trying to stay in the lower watt speakers but the better quality speakers are all designed to use amps and im not doing that.

most of the under 100 watt speakers are the kenwoods, pyles, boss, dual, and other never heard of discount no name brands

which is fine! ultimately it means you can have your stereo cranked to full and you won't have to worry about messing up the speakers. thats really it. if anything, you might have to turn the volume up a bit cause it needs a little more juice to make them audible

so you DONT have to try to match the stereo watts to the speaker watts so they are close to the same?

no not at all. stereos put out power, speakers take in power. so long as the stereo isn't putting out more power than the speakers can handle, you're totally fine!

you know, while were at it. you could always make an adapter and go from 6x8 to 6.5s and add a tweeter somewhere in there.

go by the rms ratings not peak. those jvcs look good enough for what you want.

no, im sticking with replacing my old 6x8 speakers with new 6x8 speakers, I already have separate tweeters in my doors.

but while we are on this topic, what is the best version speaker for a no amp system?

    2-way
    3-way
    4-way

at what point is it just flash and decoration and not adding anything to sound quality?

so should I be looking to buy 2-way, 3-way, or 4-way speakers

    ok, thanks

thanks, but are JVC "good quality" that's what I cant get a read on and the price seams too cheap to be good quality and I worry then might sound "cheap"

if I were to ask you to list your opinion of the top quality brands what would they be and in what order? so I can better determine if its worth paying a little more for one brand over the next
