I've seen some threads on 2nd and 3rd Gen security safes inside their rigs.

Anyone running a safe inside their console? Any links or experiences would be helpful.

You can also do the locking glove box mod. It utilizes the latch and locking mechanism from a 3rd Gen 4runner (96-02) it's a plug and play swap.

There are a ton of nice lock-boxes and safes on the market... word of advice though, if someone is determined enough to get your shit, they will. I had a nice lock-box under my passenger seat where I kept my handgun, and any valuables located if I left my truck for any amount of time.. and a couple of months ago I came back from a quick 45 minute fishing/hiking adventure to my tacoma broken into. They obviously stole some of the shit laying around, but they also cut the steel cable and took my lock-box. I didn't have anything in there at the time, but if I did, I would have never seen it again. I'm more wary of keeping valuables in my truck now, things like ipods, guns, expensive tools, etc. You can find nice lock boxes for under 50 bucks though. Not a bad investment for a quick security measure.

If I had a first gen I'd just replace the center console with a Tuffy console. Just fits in there so clean. I have a vault in my 2008 but it doesn't have much space and there's no visual deterrence.

Sorry to hear this. I am always nervious about leaving my truck for a hike or to fish as well for this reason. Was your box bolted in as well? I was thinking of one bolted to the back side of the cab behind the rear seats that fold down, but maybe they would look there too.

Yeah it can be nerve-wracking being out in the middle of nowhere and leaving your vehicle. lol I have always been cautious about things like that. No, mine was actually just laying under my seat locked down by the steel cable. They came through with heavy-duty cable cutters and jacked it pretty quickly I assume. Yeah you actually might be able to pull that off behind the rear seats. I dont have "real" back seats in my extended cab, so I couldn't give my 0.2 on that one. If they have enough time and tools, they will go through the whole truck. Some theft protection is better than none though. And bolting a box in, is much better than what I had under my seat.

What i would give to catch someone in the act of stealing my belongings or others. People who are out in the wilderness usually carry and why someone would start messing with someones stuff out in the middle of nowhere is beyond me. If they had bolt cutters they probably had other tools as well to just unbolt something.

Yeah it wasn't a great surprise after a sweet fishing adventure thats forsure. Yeah and it honestly could have been a group of folks too who were ready to roll from the get-go. I have no idea. They tapped into pretty much every area of my truck. Not sure if they were in a hurry or just assholes, but they left all my stuff open too. Glovebox, drivers side door, pretty much no F*#ks were given that day when they came up on my truck.

That sucks. Not too much worse than a fucking thief.

    Thanks for the tips.
