I searched the threads, but didn't find a definitive answer: Do the seatbelt sensors control the airbag(s)?

I want to disconnect the sensors so that I don't have to see the seatbelt light flashing constantly, but then again I don't want the airbag to deploy while I'm not wearing the belt.

Better yet, does anyone know how to disconnect the airbags (in such a way that I can reconnect them at a later time)?
