I'm pretty new to Tacomas, so I don't know what's standard on some models but not on others. My base Prerunner has no lumbar adjustment, so I was simply passing on my experience.

Potentially a herniated disk? I have a bad one and seating positing is critical.. the more upright/truck like, the better. Put me in a car and I will be in painw/in an hour... we sold my 04 Tacoma for just this reason.

I began a thread on another forum about how uncomfortable the stock buckets in the base Prerunner were, but I'm beginning to think I was a little premature in my observations. I'd driven for 4 hours without taking a break to get to a rehearsal and concert. Then I sat in an uncomfortable chair with a tenor sax strap (and tenor sax, obviously) around my neck for 5 1/2 hours, then got back in the truck and drove home for 4 hours. Starting using a lumbar support on and off and haven't really had an issue since.

Big Difference. My 2011 SR5 seats are horrible. I thought all Tacos were like that and then I test drove a couple of TRD 2014's and the seats were so much nicer, plush and comfortable. Reminded me of my Mustang seats - those were comfy.

LOL! Well that's an alternate solution. If you were facing the pillar before then you must've been looking out the back seat windows.

Amazing how people are different. I have driven up to 8 hours with a couple of normal rest stop breaks in my 2014 SR5 Double Cab Long Bed 4x4 and they are some of the most comfortable seats I've ever driven in... zero back ache.
Go get that Suburban if it floats your boat... that'll be an expensive trade. I really doubt it's the truck.

I've always hated the seats in my SR5. Luckily I only have to drive it for maybe 30 minutes in one stretch. I use a folded towel for back support. Helps a little.

The headrests are the worse part the way they push your head forward. I have mine turned around backwards. I'd rather have no support.

I had a truck with same type of seats and used Wet Okoles covers and that sorted it out. I will be buying a set of Wet Okoles for my truck in the New Year, once I get the funds together.
Left side of my seat is already wearing out after 14k, which is a bit of a surprise...

I lost my 98 Tacoma Limited (with comfortable 4Runner seats) when it was t-boned at the light and replaced it with a 2011 Access cab, then a 2011 Double cab.

I have hated the seats in my 2011 Tacomas from the first day, primarily due to the head rest angle. My head was still pretty fuzzy/crazy from the accident and I thought they had put the wrong head rests on, since they are bent so far forward, but now I just hate them. They push my head forward when I have the seatback in the more upright position I prefer and, with a lack of lumbar support, force me into a “C” shape. Around town they are annoying, but on long trips, combined with the lack of lumbar support, they really hurt.

I tried turning the headrests around backwards, but didn’t like it. I bought a headrest for a 2008 Scion, as someone here suggested, and that was an improvement. Still experimenting, I added a small Travelmate car neck pillow (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A8004D0/ref=pe_385040_30332200_pe_309540_26725410_item) to the Scion headrest and now the seat is fairly comfortable.

I’ve also been experimenting with adding various lumbar supports, but think what DenisSeattle did is the better way. Check out post #79 on this thread:

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...-feeling-uncomfortable-2010-tacoma-seats.html

I found some tempur-pedic memory foam used for airplane seats and think it would be good for building up the seat cushion and the lumbar support, then I’m going to get the seats recovered with heated, black leather Katzkin seat covers.

After the accident, I didn’t feel safe driving my Odyssey van anymore and traded it for a Subaru Outback. Wow! The OB seats are actually comfortable! Especially on long trips. If I can just make the Tacoma seats more like the OB seats, and fix the damn driveshaft vibration problem!!!, this truck will be a keeper.

I am determined to love this Tacoma as much as I did the first one. Some relationships just take a little longer...

Cool info. I'm getting one of those pillows for sure. What model Scion and front or rear?

My TRD seats are great, no complaints. I have been in the truck for 3 to 4 hours and feel good. I love the bolsters and seat materials, very durable material compared to other trucks i have had. But i am 5'7'' and weigh 178lbs so i fit nice:D

I bought a couple of those pillows from my Toyota dealer. About $20.

They push my head too forward but they really help my wife, who has a few vertebra fused in her neck (C3-5).

x2! It really does make a difference. I never thought about it until my dad started doing it, complaining about his own back. I started doing it, and it really does help.
    I'm on a 60/40 split bench seat.

If you don't mind me asking, what did it cost you to have your seat padded up? My 98's seat is a bit worn down and I can feel the frame in the back rest.

    He didn't.

I think I paid about $100, maybe $125. I had nothing to compare the cost to, but my buddy said that was a very good price. It has been one of my more favorite mods for sure.

Don't feel like the lone stranger,my 12 trd is the same way.I've put some washer's under the back of the seat tracks to raise it up,helped some. Also have gotten 3/4 inch foam from a heating supply place, cut a pad.placed it inside back seat cover, and sit on another.I know everybody is going to say "nothing wrong with the seat, just you",but have the same "pains".

I know how you feel. Getting a seat that fits your back is just like trying on a pair of shoes. Every ones back is as different as feet. One size doe's not fit all.

I also have some bad days from the seats in my 2012 Sport.

It's not the lumbar or seat length...it's the bolsters on the seat sides that may be giving the OP hip problems.

I've considered having the bolster foam shaved or reworked.

I was more comfortable in my 2010 SR5 seats to be honest. If I was to buy another Tacoma, it would definitely be an SR5.

but...probably moot in my case, because I'm looking hard at the new Tundra. Now those are some nice seats. and the TRD package (that I probably wouldn't opt for anyway) doesn't change the seats.

It's a front seat headrest from a 2008 Scion tC.

It's not the best match for the interior and just doing one seat looks a little funky, but at least now the seat's fairly comfortable and I can see why some really like the TRD seats.

One of these days I'm going to bend the posts on the original headrests...one of these days...but this works for now. One frustration at a time and I've got to fix the low speed vibration problems first.
