Seat heater...why doesn't it reset after you shut off?

I'm sure this has been discussed but it's been getting a bit chilly here in socal *snicker* and I've found that when you shut off the truck get out do your business and come back in. Start it up and it's in the last position it was in prior to it being used. Normally in every car I've owned, it would be in the off state once you start the car no matter what it was set at previously. Is this a Toyota thing?

Because the engineer who designed this got it mixed up with the ECT mode, which DOES reset, even if you’re still driving in the mountains when you restart the truck, and didn't want it to reset. Ditto with recirc mode. Better to have a sweaty butt and breathe stale air than have a responsive truck.

Not sure what model year/vehicle you had that did this, but my 2014 Q5 and my 2016 GTI keeps memory setting for heated seats.

Really? I had a 2014 B8.5 Allroad and it would shut off, my 2016 Macan GTS shut off, and before that my 997.2 shut off wonder if that was a setting inside your MMI on the Audi and the VW?

It's a blessing with a car starter, I want it to stay on when I fire it up from my house.

In colder climates I can totally see this as a blessing.

If you have your seat heaters on you most likely have you heat turned up too. It makes sense that they stay on.

How does having your seat warmers on in the summer work out for you?

    Long story short:

Driving across country with bro and sis, from WA to OH for a wedding. Traversing the midwest in the hottest, most humid, buggy, crappy part of summer. The AC went out in East Montana. Hot as balls even with windows down, doing 80. Somewhere in the Dakotas, I got bored and turned my older bros seat heater on, slyly. Then I started talking up how hot it was outside and how bad it sucked not having A/C. Whispered to my sis so she could get in on the joy. He was hotter than hell and soaked with sweat by the time he figured it out. So...so sweet!

On the Audi, there are no settings in the MMI to change the preference for memory on the heated seats, but I think I may have coded the GTI using OBD eleven, when I was in there coding other preferences. It would be nice if Toyota had a way to change those preferences, but seeing how Tacomas don't get power seats, that's pushing it a bit.

Live here in Central Florida, don't use the heat much at all, but I use the heat seats to help with lower back issues....and I have to say, they work well!!

LMAO! Along same lines, had a 2000 Passat, had my grandmother traveling with me from PA to OH, after about 15 minutes, she looked as if she couldn't be more uncomfortable, she kept sitting up, readjusting within the seat, I asked multiple times, if everything was ok, she nodded yes, finally, I said, are you sure? She finally said, I'm very hot, my back is sweating, I reached over and touch the seatback, and at the same time looked at the heated seat dial, and saw that it was in number 5. I turned it off, and realized my wife must have had it on when she last used it, and we had a good laugh!!

No, this is a smart thing. Old audi's with the rotary dials did the same thing. If you live anywhere with a half decent snowfall, having "Default zero" heated seats means that unless you leave your climate control on full heat (and remote start for 10-20 mins depending on how much your vehicle has for glass) you are entering a f* all cold vehicle every time.

Default last position means I can park my vehicle, set the remote start when I'm ready to head out and have it working ahead of time without having to pre-plan shit. That was one of the great things about both my A4 and allroad. Leave the defroster on, and seat to "6" before I get out. Remote start when ready to leave and even then I'd be jumping into a warm toasty car during new england winters.

I've had several other cars (and rented more while traveling) that use the "auto-off" default behavior and they suck during the winter to the point where they might as well not even bother with the heated seats since my frozen ass heats it up alongside the hot defroster air about as fast as the heaters can. It takes the heated seat function from "pre-warm" convenience to "burn yourself so you can pretend to be warm 10mins after jumping in". Which is about as useless as the briefing scenes in "Burn after reading" are for plot exposition.
