Hey guys, I recently bought a 2020 DCSB OR, and my new cap-it brand bulldog canopy comes in a couple weeks and I'd like to waterproof my truck as much as possible before hand.
I've looked through the threads and as near as I can tell the 2020's have plastic railings all over the top of the bed. My 18 didnt and I don't see anything for the 2020's
Does anyone know if I should remove these and apply something? I have a bunch of butyl tape that I'm going to stuff into the tiny gap shown in the first picture, but past that I'm unsure if I should do anything else.

I just filled those gaps with butyl, installed an ESI “Ultimate Tailgate Seal” Kit I bought from Amazon, and called it a day...

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
When I picked up my then brand new ARE MX the topper dealer used a "kit" to seal everything up as part of the free dealer install package. Its been just over a year of many heavy storms and no leaks. Your dealer may do this also.

You should also add sealant under the plastic bed railings. What do you mean when you say your 18 didn't have them? I thought all 2nd and 3rd gens had plastic railings.

Black silicone works wonders. Took that bar off and just silicone all around it. Now the tailgate will still leak a little.

How do you like that seal kit? Decent quality? Think it'll last?

Yeah, I'd say it's pretty decent quality. It definitely seals all three sides up pretty snug (I don't see any light passing through with the tailgate closed). Just make sure to clean all of the surfaces that the (3M) tape will be sticking to really well. I used rubbing alcohol after washing with soap and water. Also, there is plenty of it to do both sides and the bottom gap where the tailgate meets the bed, but measure twice before you cut. Probably best to keep the pieces continuous from end to end. The instructions on the ESI website are pretty decent and vehicle specific, so install was a relative breeze. As far as how long it'll last, I guess time will tell. So far so good though!
