A few friends of mine swear by this "trick" of sucking a very small amount of seafoam through their brake booster vacuum line to clean out the engine of carbon buildup and sludge. They said if you carefully run some of the seafoam through the line albeit very carefully so as not to stall the engine, then it will clean the engine parts and leave you with better performance and more power. Sounds a little sketchy to me but more than one person swears by it. Any thoughts on this method? Crazy or maybe there's some sense to it?

I personally wouldnt do it, too much risk for very little to no reward. I pour it in my gas tank and put the italian tune up in it

Prepaid to buy new CATS. Great stuff for Jeep motors, but I would never run it through my Tacoma. Good luck.

So I was also thinking of doing something similar.
I got a bore scope last year and have been sticking that sob everywhere I can.
I’m at 175k on my 08 2.7 and was shocked to see how much carbon build up I had on my piston crowns.
Guess I figured Mobil gas from the same very busy station with new tanks and pumps had the cleaners needed.
Nope so I ran a can of SeaFoam in the tank and no change at all.
Followed that with 2 bottles of Techron.
    Still looked the same.
After some looking for proof online all of which was kinda hit or miss.
I ended up getting some BG44K.
    Next 3 pics.

1 before the BG and some time after SeaFoam and Techron.

2 after 1st can of BG.

3rd after 2nd can of BG ran back to back. They say it treats 20 gallons but I did it with like 15 or 3/4 tank. Took about 3 weeks depending on how much you need to get gas.
I really didn’t want to blast a bunch of crap off to float around in the engine or ruin new A/F-02 sensors or screw up the cat.

I gotta say I was impressed with the results.
Not a salesman for BG or a hater of the others nor am I a snake oil salesmen but I have ordered more and will continue to use this.
My OBD reader shows better fuel trims and way better cat temps.
Sorry for the long post and not trying to say use this.
But this is my actual results!
I wish I could get the scope up thru the intake manifold to see the valves.
I also did the the BG induction cleaning after seeing what it did.
Intake was dirty kept getting bore scope dirty and pics were crap.
It’s absolutely spotless from what I can see now.

Could always go with methanol injection and never have to worry about carbon build up. Steam cleans your valves and combustion chamber everytime you go WOT :D

I used to do this with my old Jeep all the time, but I've never done it to the Tacoma.

Very true or a catch can!
Both of which I’ve looked at.
Not sure what the right thing to do would be.

Oil catch can would be a good start unless youve got a way to tune for water/meth. Methanol adds a lot of fuel

Yea I’m not up for all that,
plus cold temps. I’m in Vermont or I’d have a catch can already!
I really thought the fuels would have this crap to keep stuff clean!

What kind of fuel have you used since you bought the truck? And what octane? Im a believer that the higher octane fuels have more cleaning additives in them, and they burn hotter, so im guessing that helps with build up too. Very curious what the inside of my 2.7L looks like. Its got 245k miles on it and has drank the cheap gas its whole life

All Mobil regular from a busy ass station since like 40k. I’m at 175k now.
I also do low oil mileage oil changes with good oil and Toyota filters.
Maybe the wife is right in saying I shouldn’t had gotten the scope.

I feed the seafoam to the gas tank. No problems so far but without a bore scope I really don't know. Engine runs like new anyway. If you want to feed it to the vacuum line, then use the stuff meant for it. They also make a deep creep that you leave in overnight and makes a smoke show the next day. I have never used either, just regular seafoam in the gas tank.

Why is it okay in jeeps but not Tacoma’s? I used it in the gas tank and crankcase now. Never had a check engine code. Knock on wood.

Because Jeeps are throw away vehicles. Tacoma's are worth keeping and rebuilding. Seafoam will damage your CATS.
