I came to my local dealer and was looking at some of their lifted trucks and it got me wondering. What is the poke difference between a SCS ray10 (or any of their wheels with the same characteristics) 17x8.5 vs 17x9? Can you all share some pics? Especially from the front.

The 17x9 has 3.5" backspacing -38 offset which really sticks out. The 17x8.5 has 4.3" bs and -10 offset and still sticks out but not as much. I think the 17x9 will rub the cab mount and need the cmc done. I think the 17x8.5 is the better choice.

Here's my truck with 17x8.5 -10 offset with 305 tires.

And a truck someone here posted a couple months ago with the 17x9 with I think were 285 tires.

And here's mine from the front angle with the 305/65/17 tires.

    Thanks for the reply.

Do you have any shots from directly in front? I'm trying to see which one I like best.

I hoping some 3rd gen owners provide some pics.

No, I'll have to try to take a straight on shot tomorrow if I can remember. What size tire were you planning on running? The 9" wide wheel is most likely going to rub somewhere. I think a 17x9 with -12 offset would work but the -38 really pushes it out. That would put it more than 1" farther out compared to my setup.

I'm thinking about 275/65/17 - BFG K02. I'm going with a 3/2 lift. My lift kit has been sitting in my closet since November, smh. I'll be installing it in the next month or so.

@Sandman TRD Nice truck!! Are you running any spacers? That poke looks good from that angle. What about shot from directly in front?

@Sandman TRD did you have to do any trimming or CMC? I think I'm back to 17x8.5...lol

No trimming and no CMC. Will be doing a small lift here soon and probably move up to a 285/70/17 and know I will have some work to do to not rub at that point.

CMC and Pinch weld folded over. Front trimmed slightly and fender liners pushed forward.

I did find a partial picture of straight on. My driveway isn't level so it leans to the driver's side a little.

With the straight on view it seems to have very minimal poke. I'd like to see that exact view with the 17x9.

Here's a picture that ZeroT4R posted last year. Stock on the left vs 17x9 -38 with 285/70/17 on the right. You definitely need to do some trimming and probably need adjustable UCA's and then a CMC to fit without rubbing.

@SoCalTacoTruck what tire size is the truck on the far left running? I really like that stance and look, reminds me of a Raptor.

@ZeroT4R what lift are you running and what did you have to trim and chop to get this to fit?

Aside from looks, I'd like to get the maximum performance out of my lift (which has been sitting in my closet since November :anonymous:). At the moment there are two things I'm debating, the poke (17x8.5 vs 17.9) and the tire size. I really don't mind running a smaller tire if it means not having to trim and chop my truck. But, that stance and look you get from the 17x9 is pushing me to trim and chop, lol. Decisions, decisions!!

Just in case its useful my lift is below. I'll be shooting for a 3/2 lift.
    - Fox 2.5 w/ DSC fronts (w/ 650# spring)
    - ICON DJ UCAs
    - Fox 2.5 w/ DSC rears (Tundra PN for extra travel)
    - ICON RXT leaf pack (thinking I'll run option #2)
    - ICON hydraulic bumpstops
