Well, I had a little accident a few days ago where I was pulling out from a parking lot and didn't see a short concrete block and scraped my front bumper on the driver's side of the truck.

    Here's a picture...
    file.jpg
My local Toyota dealership doesn't have a body shop so they recommended a place nearby. I went there and they said they could buff it out and repaint it for around $400-500 but since the bumper has an "orange peel" texture it would not match since the damaged side would be smooth. That body shop and two others offered to replace the whole bumper w/ the texture for around $1,000.

Has anyone had anything similar happen and how much did it cost to repair it?

Also, would I be able to do anything with my damaged bumper?

Sounds about right. Should just get a plate bumper.

Compound it carefully by hand, wax it and drive it off road some.

And don't go to a body shop that doesn't know how to match oe paint and texture.

Just take a paint pen to it. It's so small and insignificant that you wont notice after awhile. I put a similar scratch on mine.

I painted one and did the whole bumper that was scratched almost in the same spot. I did not try to match the original bumper and matched the truck finish to a high gloss, looks better than stock. PPG Paint: Base/Clear was over $400. Touch-up and buff seems like a good deal considering they would have to do some body work as well. $.02

The body shop is right, my family owns a collision shop and when you have to sand that gouge down then repair you csnt recreate the texture toyota uses on the bumper molds. I did something similar before I got my demello bumper. We just repaired it and sanded down the other side so the bumper was smooth like every other bumper.

None of that will buff out it would need painted. That make a additive you can put in clear and it would blend in after some wet sanding and buffing once the damage is fixed. Repaint it
