"Scout GPS Link app has to be running on phone first before powering vehicle on" - again, before the early April update, this was NOT required (and verified by at least a couple of posters to this thread)! Why would they take something that was getting 1 * ratings, and try to force it to ZERO *'s ??????

Before that April update, Scout GPS Link worked pretty consistently for me. I, also, did not have to have the phone application already running nor did I have to start it up for it to work correctly on the head unit. After that last update, the app on the head unit went back to being inconsistent and not being able to connect. I'm fairly certain the root of the issue lies between iOS and the phone application. I'm thinking it's either a memory caching or system call issue, hence why I'm trying to get in contact with a developer at TeleNav so I can go over all my observations. I came up with the fix I posted after working on this in my spare time for about one month and another month of testing. I also suspect that there is probably only one developer that works on this and probably has multiple projects that they work on so it's kind of like they get to debugging when they can get to it based on their other priorities.

This is their standard steps found on ZenDesk and it amounts to an uninstall and reinstall which is an unacceptable 'solution' to use a piece of software. It's like they're skirting the issue and don't want to track down the root cause of the issue. Laziness.

Did the uninstall/reinstall thing a dozen times - no joy. BigCalhoun, I have NOT updated my iOS to 11 yet - still running on latest version of 10 - so it is NOT an iOS update. So, anyone with an Android that is seeing the same sketchy behavior??

Yeah, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling also and it's been hit and miss. I'm going to put together a YouTube video of my workaround. It's just going to take a little time to get it all together and edit it so that it makes sense. Hopefully, I can have it up my the end of the week.

Looks like they’re uninterested in the product. They’re the only game in town. They have all the business they need.

OK - you are NOT going to believe this! Got into my truck at lunch, realized I forgot to fire up the app before I started the truck, so just said the hell with it. And there pops up my to work and to home times!! And I checked and the app was NOT running on my iPhone! Ate lunch, got back in, and again, worked as advertised!. Stopped one more place before I came back to work, and again, worked as advertised! And NOTHING HAS CHANGED!!!

Now I'm worried - just got a ScoutGPS update on my iOS and installed it before I realized what it was. I'll let you know what happens! And things were working SO WELL.

Hey guys, just reading through this because I was wanting to try this app on my truck. First of all, I have a 2014 Tacoma and from what I have read a little in the past, this should work on my truck. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Next things I just thought about is.... Are all the issues related to I phones? I am assuming IOS is referring to an I phone operating system. I have an Android phone.
Is this worth trying to down load and give it a try or not? If I can use this in my truck and it does not work, can I remove it?

    Thanks guys.

Well, worry confirmed - the damn thing again won't hook up unless the app is running. What a TOTAL PIECE OF S#IT!!!!

I was able to get in touch with someone at TeleNav. They confirmed that have been actively working on the issue and have updated the software (now v1.0.75). For me, it's been working great; I was pleasantly surprised when it started up without going through my little procedure. I'm also on the latest version of iOS (11.3).

What they suggest you do is delete the app, restart your phone (which only clears memory and cache), and then reinstall the app. If all else fails, you can try the procedure I posted earlier in the thread or consider upgrading to iOS 11 and see if that resolves your challenges. If you search for "restart iphone " followed by your model number, you should find the appropriate instructions which involve holding a certain button combination until the power cycles and displays the Apple logo.

Well, yesterday at lunch it fired right up WITHOUT the app running! And did it 3 more times that day and this morning! My fingers are blue from holding them crossed all the time! Thanx for the update BC!

And just as strangely as it started, it stopped. Then started again (working without the app fired up). I've been in IT for 30 years and have NEVER seen an application that is as all over the place as this one. However, SOME good news - seems the recent update allows you to fire up the app AFTER starting the car and it will sync up without going through Toyota hoops.

How are you guys using Scout? Are you connecting via Bluetooth or USB? I've used it a few times with Bluetooth, but after a while the driving directions go crazy.

WARNING! Do NOT install the latest ScoutGPS app - they have totally destroyed it. It no longer links up on it's own, you HAVE to fire up the app, and when you do it asks you 3 or more questions EVERY TIME IT FIRES UP - first one being Are you in a Toyota or Lexus?? NO way to set it permanently to Toyota. That is probably the reason it won't just hook up anymore. And I feel terrible for Lexus owners that pay big money just to have to put up with this absolute crap. I can't believe they would actually put this garbage in a Lexus.

Here's what I just sent the "developers":

OK – this is absolutely unacceptable! Even after I created an account and signed in I STILL have to answer these damn questions EVERY SINGLE TIME I use the app, and it RARELY connects to the system on its own anymore. I got the head unit update couple days ago and it is worse than ever (if you can imagine a rating lower than ONE!)

    IMG_4556[1].jpg

First, colors are horrid. Hard to read, bad color combination – who can read this???

    IMG_4557[1].jpg

Then this awful gray rather than the nice blue lines of before:

    IMG_4562[1].jpg

And here are the questions I have to answer every damn time – not worth even TRYING to use anymore:
Yes I drive a Toyota EVERY SINGLE DAY!

    IMG_4558[1].jpg

Yes, I Got IT EVERY SINGLE TIME!
    IMG_4559[1].jpg

More BS screens - how can I "enjoy SCout GPS" with all this crap I have to go through??

    IMG_4560[1].jpg

    YES I GOT IT!!!

    IMG_4561[1].jpg

FOUR screens I have to go through just to have an app get me lost!
