Just bought a mirror mount for a Scangauge 2 from Blendmount.bsg-1000-bc-800-4__67417.1652375575.jpg
I went to Amazon to purchase the Scangauge right after only to find they don't ship with the newest firmware, 4.53.
I went to Scangauge's website to purchase directly from them only to find out they just released a Scangauge 3.

I am considering changing routes. It's a bit more money but very fancy.

Any thoughts from current Scangauge or Ultraguage users? Discussion and input appreciated.

I like the more compact size of the Scanguage II, but the III does look much more modern and has more features. I only use mine for monitoring things while towing and it works perfect for my needs.

My mirror is too high up to use the blend mount, here's where I mounted mine.
Edit: Red 1, Grn 1, Blue 2 is a good match for the 3rd gen interior blue on the II.

The Scanguage being compact is why I chose it over the Ultragauge originally but also because I felt the Ultragauge looked dated for an LCD.

I also found a center mount in the dash where you have it but didnt want to cut to hide wires and went with the mirror mount to tuck the wiring into the headliner. Which also may be a problem due to my A-Pillar being packed with other harness. scangauge_mount_tacoma-9.jpg

My wire was nearly invisible just running around the corner and zip-tied in place - Until I installed my footwell lights. It still doesn't bother me enough to change anything though.

Low profile is the best part of the SCII, keep it on the steering column and only I will know it's there.

I planned on having two more readouts near the steering column with the Meso TacoPods but they have been out of stock for a long time and I believe he plans on an update. I definitely could have saved money with a column mount.

It's definitely an easier route, the Scangauge 2. This new screen on the 3 with an OEM looking mount, similar to the previous mounts shown could be worth looking at.Screenshot_20220512-155238_Chrome.jpg

Is it held on with just double side tape?

That's quite a bit more $ than the original with not any more functions but nicer display screen. Maybe if you do some heavy duty towing and need to see all sorts of temps and your current gear at all times this is probably useful. I like the og I've had since 2006 and is kicking strong. Glad to see them "innovate" a bit though.

I believe there are quite a few new functions.
    1. A 16 million color touch screen display.
    2. The ability to have up to 9 gauges. (SG2 has 4)
    3. Automatic Xgauge.
    4. Free wireless updates.
I don't own a Scangauge yet and I could be wrong on some of this but from what I've read these are all significant improvements to the earlier models and could definitely sway some opinions for new buyers.

Can the scan gauge IIs read trans temp on MT s ? I have a blue tooth OBD reader and for the life of me can't find it in there. Would like something for towing as I tow a few months a year for my work.

#3 would be great if it auto-ids your vehicle or if at least you can punch it in. Putting in the xgauges is a pita in sg2 if you don't select a value correctly or spend too long trying to do it. Would be curious how well it actually works since they sometimes have 4 xgauge codes for one PID you need to try before it works for your specific model. Also challenging is that not all Toyotas have the same sensors so some won't report any data.

#4 updates to sg2 are $25. I updated mine once in the past 16 years. If the updates include actual new features along with greater support for xgauges, that would be great.

The problem they've always had was having access to vehicles in order to decode the CAN data and provide more PIDs for xgauges. Hopefully they figured that part out and OTA updates would actually give you more PIDs automatically and new features on a more regular basis. Maybe SG3 will communicate back to the mothership to get that info. :alien:

I'm interested in trans temp only - going on a small journey this week wish I could rent one for a few days.

i'm still disappointed that they don't offer a model in a DIN standard. would be so much easier to mount over a radio...
