Is there a free way to use a VIN to confirm the bed length on either a 2G or 3G Tacoma? I can't find it on the Monroney Label, and the Toyota.com Vehicle Specs only gives the body style and not the bed length, its basically a reformatted Monroney.

I'm in the market for a DCLB, but I can't always tell from the (poor quality) listing photos posted what bed length the truck is equipped with. Its a little easier to do with the 2G, but not as easy with the 3G.

Look in front of the rear wheel, that gives it away. There’s either extra bed length there or not. You should be able to tell even with poor quality photos.

The easiest way I've always figured it out is by looking at the gas door. If its only 2-3 inches from the edge of the bed, its a short bed. If it's > 1 foot away it's a long bed.

    Create an account here:

Enter VIN and will give you complete rundown of vehicle, just in case you have other questions about it. Other than advice on identifying LB or SB like given above.

The Toyota VIN decoder website DOES indicate what bed a truck has but you need to understand what the bed options were for each cab style in order to read the output properly. More info here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/toyotas-vin-decoder-doesnt-give-bed-length-on-dcb.687208/

Here’s an example. I can guess this is most likely a 5’ bed, but I’m not gambling $35k on a guess if this is the only photo I have.

Aside from a picture taken directly behind it, that may be one of the worst photos you can have to determine bed length, on a $35k guess

There’s no such thing as a long-bed Tacoma. There’s stupid short and there’s slightly less short.

That looks like a DCLB to me but definitely the worst angle to try and confirm the bed length on.

Buy for $35k, spend $500 on an inspection, doesn’t meet your standards, sell private party as-is for $40k+. Rinse repeat.

also, commercial auctions do provide disclosures and condition reports, plus they have guarantees and claw-backs in place. So it’s not as big a risk as dropping tens of thousands on half a dozen photos alone.
