My current windshield is badly chipped and scratched, and has two large chips that are unfixable. So I'm looking to replace the glass, and safelite looks like a good cheap option, $400.
Not sure why they only offer green tint... but I guess for the price I can't be picky.

Anyone ever gotten glass through them? Any complaints?

We use a local place. $150 for the 4Runner or the tacoma.

I recently had the glass replaced on my old F150 by safelite and didn’t have any complaints on their service, insurance covered it though so I paid $0. Went through a third party the time before and paid $200 out the door for non-OEM glass but that was on the Ford as well. Haven’t had to replace it on the taco yet :fingerscrossed: but would assume it would be similar price or cheaper since the glass is smaller.

I called safelite and a few other shops at that time to price it and the third party mom and pop shop was definitely cheaper.

I've used them three times on my truck. First time was fine. Second time, they chipped the paint near the pillars (two month old paint job) on the edges near the glass and didn't seal it correctly (leaked water). Third time, under the warranty claim, they failed to reimburse for the damaged paint and the seal is still misaligned, revealing the edge of the glass.

Meh. It might be different in a smaller city but I was in AZ at the time and I'm positive their schedules are slammed. That leaves their employees rushing to fulfill orders and being careless.

Does safelite offer warranty on all the glass they install? Cause at least I could continue to badger them if they screw it up the first time.

I have been through 3 windshields in the last year. First one was original the other two were Safelite glass. I personally think they use cheap glass that cracks easily.

I also had a miserable customer service experience with them.
They attempted to fix one of my chips and it cracked further, which meant they couldn’t do just chip repair. The tech left without reattaching my rearview mirror. I could not get Safelite back to reattach it while I had to wait a week for a new windshield. They blew off 2 appointments before showing up to the 3rd and the guy was supposed to replace the windshield but was sent only to reattach my mirror. Safelite deleted my previous windshield appointment.

I scheduled another appointment to replace the windshield and called the Safelite shop the morning of the replacement to confirm the windshield was on their truck and confirmed the appt time.
The guy showed up without the windshield to just reattach my rearview mirror.

Safelite displays a level of incompetence I never care to deal with again. Especially adding on that their glass product won’t last more than 6 months. I would recommend avoiding them.

I used them once. Some ahole thought a Toyota manual was valuable and smashed the passenger window for it. Long story short, the window button failed to work after a few months and then ultimately the window slid out of whatever it is that holds a window in place. Leaving it inoperable. I won’t use them again.

Looks like I should find a local shop. But where to find the glass? I've seen some around for 500-800, does that seem correct?

The one I use is a small mom and pop shop. They’ve even fixed cracks before for me for free. Give the little guys a chance. They’ll take care of you better than the big ones that just want your money and run. They stand behind their product and want to make you happy. Never had a single issue out of them.

I’ve had safelite replace about 5 windshields and one rear window (05 Tundra). I’ve not had any problems.

Yeah they order the glass and have in a day or two. Then install it and off you go.

Safelite was charging me $480 for the glass before I changed my insurance deductible. I never shopped other places for full price.

If its $800 it should be OEM glass

That’s also full price without using insurance.

Used them twice and no complaints. One with my old Dakota and once with my Tacoma. Both were courteous and did the job fairly fast and complete. Tacoma was 2 years ago I think.

Do check a local place. I see invoices for windshield replacements regularly, they are usually in the 150-250 range from local glass shops. There may be some kind of volume discount there but individually they shouldn't be all that much more.

I had an appointment with safelite and when I showed up they said the windshield was damaged in shipping, I used a shop next door who did it for $150 installed. Took about an hour. Safelite sucks, they wanted a lot more.
