I have a brand new 2021 TRD Pro and was wondering if it was safe to run 90 ethanol free gas ?
I have a station a mile away that sells it. I know that there is 10 percent in 87-93 I just don't know if safe because I know Toyota has these trucks tuned for 87 for fuel eco reason. I do not care about the cost being I have had and have cars that require 93 only. I just want the truck to run to it's best abilities. side note what about 93 with 10percent ethanol vs the 90 ethanol free ?
    thanks to all that reply.

You're find but ethanol is a very good cleaning solvent that keeps your injectors and intake valves clean. It's downside is that it attracts moisture and doesn't have as many BTUs vs. pure gasoline. The cost doesn't justify the added mileage. If I have leftover ethanol free gas in a can and want fresh gas for my small engines, the ethanol free goes into my truck.

Perfectly safe, worse case you might get a little worse fuel economy and power. More likely, the truck will adjust and behave exactly the same as it does with the recommended fuel.

Actually you will get more power and better fuel mileage with ethanol free fuel.

You can run it, but your wasting your money, the trucks runs well if not better on 87.....my 2020 actually runs worse on 92 E10 premium.

I find mine to run the best and get the best milage with 89 ethanol. We don't have any 0 ethanol so I can't compare that but it sounds perfect for these trucks.

Running a higher octane will do no harm to your engine at all…just your check book.

It will run best at 87 octane.

Edit: unless you're in Colorado or something. Then it's lower.

Non E is good for long term gas storage like if you only fill up every 3 months or more. E10 loses Octane after 30+ days. Really no benefits to Octane higher than 87/89.
    I run 89 Non E because I only drive 8 miles a week.

90 octane is perfect if you have a KDMax regular fuel tune. 90 octane is as high as the tune will adjust to and take avantage of. Anything higher is a waste. A premium fuel tune is a different story but you can't run regular gas with it. Without a tune all you need is 87 octane or 85 at higher elevations. All things being equal ethanol free is better regardless of Octane rating.

I heard rumors of people getting better mileage out of mid grade fuel (using this term for those at elevation). I tested that. I didn't see more mileage. Theoretically it should not work because higher octane is less efficient if you are tuned for regular. Gas without ethanol will give better mileage, but the cost usually doesn't justify it. I'd be curious if you test it. If you have a tune, it may be octane learning. Again, testing will show the results with the higher octane and no alcohol.

Nothing like selectively quoting a post huh... I said, most likely the computer would adjust for the different octane level, and the lack of alcohol (an oxidizer) in the fuel.

If you must know how it might be worse though, comes down to timing advance, and the fuel air mixture being different. Alcohol is an oxidizer, meaning that non oxy will run richer than oxidized fuel. Again, modern engines all adjust for this (the O2 sensor can sense the if the engine is running rich), but if it didn't, you would get worse fuel economy due to running rich.
