I have high expectations when it comes to lighting. Maybe it comes with the career. A huge pet peeve is glaring lights caused by some joker who thinks his LED lights are great and doesn't give a crap how they're blinding oncoming traffic.

Right now I'm setting up a 2019 Tacoma I just bought. The PO chose some great components and some garbage components, so I'm having to fix a few things. Every LED light was absolute garbage... But the most important ones to fix were the fog lights, since they can stay on (with the low beam headlights) when there's oncoming traffic.

The PO had installed some yellow cube LEDs for fog lights. When I went to use them, they were a flood beam. Totally unacceptable, absolutely glaring for oncoming vehicles. So I didn't use them until I could get a replacement.

A few days later I had a replacement LED lights from Body Armor... Same brand as my bumpers. They were advertised as a fog light and we're under $100. I had high hopes.

What I found was they were an attempt at a fog pattern... But the quality just wasn't there. The pattern was moderately wide and was bright, but the cutoff wasn't sharp, so they threw light upward like a flood beam. The glare off them was obnoxious to oncoming vehicles. They went right back to the vendor.

I went through this light search years ago with a different truck and had ultimately forked over a lot of money for Rigid Industries new (at the time) SAE compliant LED fog cube lights. I was extremely skeptical, but when they arrived, the pattern was truly impressive.

    So, I shelled out $225 for a
#504813 Rigid SAE Compliant Fog Light Set this week. Just like my previous set, they didn't disappoint. Very wide, very bright beam, with a super crisp cut off.

These photos are all with stock projector beam headlights and Rigid Industries SAE approved fog light cubes

Pattern with only the fog lights on. The cutoff in the light pattern is exceptionally sharp.

Their lens puts all the light right where a fog light should, and no glare. Here's the oncoming view.

$225 is a high price point when China is flooding the market the inexpensive LEDs. However, especially in this case, it's money well spent. Their product delivers and they have the SAE certification to back it up.

Rigid makes excellent performing SAE foglights with sharp cut offs and a great warranty. You'll find many of those china light brands just call themselves a 'fog light' when they are actually not one at all. Unfortunately many don't know better. I personally find Rigid's white fogs a bit too high in color temp for poor weather conditions, but their selective yellow SAE fogs are awesome. You can see how they compare to the competition in the thread below, with links to the newer selective yellow fogs at the top.
