Sabellco tailgate lock RUH-ROH

Got the lock installed. Works great. Works so good I can’t get it off. I can tell the little cam that goes through the tab hole is not retracting. Before I send Sabellco a really nasty email, anyone encountered this before?

 

I would not sent anything nasty. I talked with the man (or one of the customer service people at least). He seem nice and helpful, and I am sure they have useful advice if you ask nicely.

Those lock cylinders are like the rotopax ones, need to keep it lubricated or it seizes up.

 

I've got it soaked with silicone spray lube as I'm typing. I texted Sabellco, waiting for reply.

 

Learn patience. Just some friendly advice.

 

PB Blaster also. Whtever others recommend to "unseize".

 

Be patient this is his side gig from what I remember he has a fulltime job outside of the lock. The good news is at least the local drug addicts won't get your tailgate since you can't get it off.

 

Used some PB Blaster on mine. Same thing happened. I flooded it with that and waited a few minutes and it worked fine again. Now, I just do that every month and haven’t had any further problems.

 

In case you couldn’t tell, the ‘nasty’ reference was just sarcasm/venting. I know by now a percentage of vendors could give a flying F about after sales support. Not saying this is the case here, although I’ve yet to receive a reply to my text. So me projecting hostility towards the vendor was never going to happen. So leave the psycho-babble at the door. It doesn’t help. Humor is good. See post #9.

 

Put a creeper style fluid on it let creep in, and put some heat on it like a hair dryer or heat gun it will help the PB, mouse milk, silicone shit get sucked in via capillary action. then work your key maybe even hit with rubber mallet. definitely heat it up.

 

No heat required. PB blaster to the rescue. If vendor ever responds to my initial text, I’m going to suggest he adds a note to the installation instructions to hit lock with a penetrant after initial installation and as preventative maintenance.

 

I potted mine (as best as i could) with heavy grease on initial install.... last time i tried it, it still worked, but its a garage stored truck...

 

I never intended to take mine off; never even tried to remove it.

This is a good idea. The only negative would be in the hot summer months it might drip a little.

 

but it does attract dirt and dust, so it is a double edged sword.... but i figured it would be better with grease and dirt, than corrosion and probably still alot of dirt.... wonder if there is an available plastic cap that fits those barrel locks
