This morning I was looking under my seat for something I lost and I noticed that there was rust on under the seats. It's bare metal. I took it to the dealership right after I got off of work and they told me that all the new cars have it and and Toyota is aware of it. Sounds like bunch of BS to me. I just bought the truck like 3 weeks ago its a 2011 Tacoma Access Cab. The guy at the dealership was also telling me that all bare metal rust like the rotors. I told him those items are out side of the truck exposed to water. There's no reason it would rust inside the truck. Then he started to say that Toyota makes there stuff strong so I don't have to worry about it.

Do any of you guys have trust under your seats?

Uh oh. Better go check under the seats later. The stealer tried to give me the "all new cars have rust" BS too when I took it in for undercarriage rust. That pissed me off since it's not true, just another excuse to shrug off the problem. Wanted to rip the guy's head off since he went on and on about how its normal when ALL the other Tacos on their lot had absolutely no rust...yes, I actually looked under each one. At least in the end they fixed it but it really disappointed me since I expect much more from Toyota. But yeah I was playing with the tilt on the steering wheel and I saw lots of surface rust on something in there...better have a better look at that too. :(

Toyota got a little cheap and didnt protect some parts with paint. So yea it will rust. Humidity in the air is enough to do it.

Dealer isnt going to fix it. If you are worried, you could disaasemble your entire interior and paint it all.:p

Just leave it, youll be fine

I just noticed I have the same rust on the frame and bolts under my driver and passenger seat in my 2014 Taco. Any update on whether or not it was fixed? I have about 42,000km on it and park it in a closed garage.

Those parts are bare steel and will rust just from the moisture in the air.

Anyone have an idea for a rust slowing lubricant that's not offensive? Something that can be sprayed or brushed on.

Fluid Film is not as bad as other. I don't mind the smell actually. :anonymous:

LOL I don't think that will fly in my truck. My daughter can be picky when it comes to smells.

Do not put fluid film anywhere in your car interior or door panels if you live anywhere where it remotely gets warm. It will heat up and smell like chewing tobacco cup. Pick something else.

I’m not picky with smells but fluid film smells like straight ass. It doesn’t belong anywhere except the vehicle frame.

If it bothers you that much, remove your seats, tip them up and brush on some silver or black Rust Oleum. I have to do that periodically to some black pipe nipples I have outside on pergola we put in a few years back. It's pretty good stuff and in that environment, will last a long time.
