I tried Sta-Bil Rust Stopper spray on frame metals few months ago. A few cans goes a long way. Just need a light coating and used large paint brush to smooth it in and around. Not sure how long it will last. Using sprays like this might be a bunch of hype…time will tell.

Just about anything besides rubberized undercoating. Did my truck back in November. Now that I look under it the existing rust at the time(minimal surface rust) has gotten worse due to the rubberized coating holding moisture in. I've rinsed out the underbody multiple times since spring to no avail.

Fluid film is what I'm going with this time around.

I've had my Tacoma up on a lift right next to my cousins 14 Tundra. This was before I undercoated. His has seen 4 more winters than my taco and 80k more miles with no sort of undercoating. NY salt brine since new. The difference is astonishing. Mine looks older, his is nearly spotless outside of some surface rust on the welds. POC for Tacoma frames need to be sent to the guillotine for ruining an otherwise good vehicle.

Living in connecticut i've used a few, so far cosmoline rp-342 has been by far the best. It doesn't wash away like fluid film or some others.

I would still personally do it so rust doesn’t affect your resale value if you do get rid of it. Something to consider

Any idea on what to use to remove this cavity wax? Or just a simple degreaser and scrub. My tailgate has collected dirt/pebbles gunk and I have the 3m wax but would like to clean the old crap out first

Supposedly any wax removal sprayed over the cavity wax with scrubbing should remove it. Its crucial not to get any of of the wax removal on any plastic or rubber components.

I used WD40 and a silicone bottle brush to free it up. Was very hard to do, as I can barely get my hand up in there. The scrub wand helps. Once I got the pebbles out, I recoated with Fluid Film.

Is there any difference between Fluid film Red and Fluid film Black?

I've been using T9 Boeshield. Put it on once a year with a compressor and sprayer. Seems to get in all the nooks and crannies. Used it on my second gen for 5 years and now on my third gen. Quick to put on don't have to clean off the old, and it's made for planes so hopefully good stuff.

The sad thing is we own newer trucks and worry about rust. I owned a 1998 Range Rover that had 175k on it and was 20 years old and the frame was rust free even on the welds. The rest of the vehicle was shot and didn’t work but that frame looked new.

That paint also probably put a hole in the ozone the size of Arkansas.

There are some places here in the Northeast that apply oil underneath vehicles. But don't how well it works. I think you pay a larger fee upfront and then yearly applications? Would be interested if anyone has experience.

I like the fact it is environmentally friendly. Many old timers have applied used motor oil for years with varying result's, some have used a little added linseed oil for better adhesion. I have always thought it would be better to buy new heavy weight maybe, straight 30w (?) without the used oil contaminants.

I knew a shop in vermont that did those oil jobs to. It'd work great, but you'd have to clean your chassis well every fall before they would reapply it for the next winter. Imo, its like fluid film just blacker looking when sprayed on. Franky i'm not into those oil jobs. I even wonder how good they are for the environment.

I use Great Lakes Chemical for all my vehicles. Not sure if you have one near you, it’s a waxy spray, works good.
