I have a 2014 tacoma, and after seeing what the new one looks like, I decided to keep my 2nd gen for as long as possible. Which is why I want to prevent rust before it becomes a problem. I'm gonna do the inside of my frames with some Eastwood internal frame coating. I'm a little worried I might get it on parts that shouldn't get this stuff. Looking underneath, it looks as if there could be a lot of overspray going through holes I can't even see, on parts I don't want to be painted. Does this stuff dry instantly, or can it be wiped off while fresh?

Also there are little rust spots on my frames weld points, they look like there getting bigger everytime I check them. Can you recommend a product that has little or no prep work, or a method to deal with rust, preferably rust proofing the whole frame? I've heard about fluid film, but people say it tends to make things dirty. I would use Por 15, but I live in an apartment with shared garages, so it's pretty difficult to sand and paint the whole thing.

Anyways, I was thinking of useing a small dremel to sand off these spots, and spray it with some rust proof paint for now. Have no clue if this is a bad idea.

Any help would be appreciated :)

I've used Eastwood's internal frame coating on my last nonToyota truck. It's a paint and will run. For my '13, I chose Amsoil HD metal protector and used the flexible want that came with the Eastwood internal frame coating spray can. I wouldn't worry about the little rust spots on the welds. For rust to grow it needs exposure to air and water/humidity. Block them and it won't grow or at least have very, very slow growth. There's several choices to go with and everybody has a favorite. Whichever you choose is better than none...

Was a long read but worth it. Very confident with my decision now. Thanks

Ya I am worried about paint dripping everywhere. So I'll probably go with amsoil or fluid film. Will spray it on everything and try to keep that stuff away from the exhaust. I hope the smell doesn't piss off my neighbors.

you were spot on about it running out of the existing frame holes if there was no rust to encapsulate which it dried instantly in a few spots i saw it deep under that had a surface crust

here is a short video of what it looks like in the passenger rear area right behind the spring perch

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4-BV44fW2Y

i used the green IFC first to see if there were any missed spots it did not creep into, which a couple are noticed and noted

also dripped some on my arm and burned the skin sortof, i would rec a long sleeve shirt and DEFINITELY eye safety, fumes were choking as well so take precautions as you see fit

My 2014 has the same issues on the frame. Goes in October 30 for the dealer rust corrosion treatment on the inside of the frame only. I just bought 2 quarts of Eastwood’s Rust encapsulator Plus and cans of the pre-prep spray. Scrape/wire brush first then prep, then I’ll brush the entire frame. I’ll be finishing off with a coat of Woolwax as well.
