Running lights

My "bottom of the line" 22 Tacoma does not have running lights. You can use the parking lights and I like that because it then has taillights, however I can't remember to turn them off. I haven't had the truck long enough to know if the truck is "smart" enough to turn them off or will the battery run down? I believe they are led lights, so won't use much juice. Do the parking lights have an auto shut off feature?

 

My 22 sport with auto headlights will turn the lights off, if i leave them on the "on" position during daytime rainy driving (not dark enough to utilize the Auto on feature"

if you want to test it, turn them on and lock the truck. wait 20 mins and check.

 

On a lot of Toyotas you can leave them on, lock it.....and theyll stay on a bit. But if you hit lock a second time they go off.

Not sure on the 22 Taco though.

Damnit man, I was just about to post that page of the manual myself. Now you've made me waste a screenshot.

I will add that you can adjust that 30 second timer to 60 or 90 seconds or, I think , to off in vehicle settings on the head unit.

The truck will turn them off. Also, your truck has daytime running lights, which on your model is the front turn signals constantly on until turn signal is selected, at which point the selected side blinks. After the turn maneuver is complete, that respective side goes back to full brightness for DRL. At night time, once parking lights or headlights are selected, the drl turn signal bulbs dim down to the lower filament for normal running lamp operation and blink brighter for turn signals.

in other words, if you’re going for visibility, you’re already visible with your Amber turn signal DRL.

Do you mean Daytime Running Lights? 'Cause you do, they are your TURN bulbs.

 

Does the base model have an auto setting? ...I thought that was the higher trim levels.

Are you able to use the repair manual on your phone?
The file size is a lot larger than the owners and I think several thousand pages......it doesn’t work well on my phone.

Yes OP drive with your parking lights on. I believe they do turn off as others posted, you'll check it over yourself I'm sure.

on tacoma, does the dash dim with parking lights on . . . this is the behavior of 4runner, and the dash is dim to see at midday with my on. Has anyone done a mod to turn parking lights on with the drl switch position (and the dash staying bright)? So after mod you would have on the stalk, off, drl (modded to turn on parking lights), parking lights (dim dash), lo beam.

 

No "auto" setting on my trim level, does have auto dim. No day time running lights either. Unless you have to be in "drive" for them to turn on I'll check that.

 

I have the lowest trim SR. If I leave the headlights on with the truck off they turn off automatically after 30-60 seconds. I don't have the "auto" setting. Just off, DRLs, Parking lights, and On.

 

Turn engine On, release parking brake, set again. Go outside and view them (DRL's)
