99% sure this is what's on my wife's TRD Pro Sequoia. I think they're amazing, best steps I've ever used. If I didn't want sliders, only steps, these would be top of the list.

Tyger running boards from Wal Mart are good quality for the price.

I have the same, only the Access Cab version. My wife's on the shorter side (5'4") and has knee issues, so the drop step was a big help for her. Bolt on attachment using the same mounting holes as the OEMs I removed, so it's a simple, solid attachment. Mounting brackets bolt onto the truck, then the bar and steps bolt to the brackets, so it's an easy solo project that will only take an hour or two, depending on your skill and tools. (Took me about 2 hours, due to taking my time and needing to work on the ground - a lift would make this infinitely easier.)

If you favor OEM, consider the running boards that Toyota lists as fitting 2'nd generation Tacomas, because they fit 3'rd generation as well. Last I looked, the 2'nd generation boards are MUCH cheaper. Here they are on my truck:

    Here's the DC model:https://www.amazon.com/TOYOTA-Genui...a+tacoma+running+boards,automotive,170&sr=8-7

Not sure if these running boards would meet OP's needs. They sit pretty high and tight to the cab. OP may need a lower step/board.

Not sure how much lower these are compared to yours...that is a solid step across on your Tacoma.

I saw those when I was researching my purchase. I kinda wanted something different than the OEM style tube ones...plus, like you said...they stick out far enough (for the most part) for those dingbats that don't care about how they open their doors.

I'm also considering sliders...but that's down the road with a lift kit and bigger tires! (Gotta give the wife some time before I go "mad" as she puts it, with my obsession...lol)

Man, I didn't read the whole thread, but see a lot of ppl commenting steps are "pointless" if they don't hang down 12 inches from the door. My truck came with predator steps and I felt I had to take them off even for fire roads

I have 10 degree sliders and my mom can get in fine after knee surgery, little kids have no problem, my big fat brother in law can get in. I'm also lifted almost 3 inches between suspension and tires.

If you're constantly transporting handicapped people and/or midgets, it's probably a good time to take advantage of the ridiculous used Tacoma prices and trade in for a nice minivan.

These look just like my Havoc HS2 steps. Wonder if they are the same manufacturer....

I am happy with my steps. I recommend them. AMP Research retractable side steps.

I have these on my truck as well and I love them. With that being said, they are probably not what the OP is looking for. They don't offer much for someone who needs help getting into the truck because they sit so high against the rockers. I use them for easy access to my roof rack and to help keep door dings at bay because of how far out they come.
