I didn't plan on putting running boards on my 2022 TRD sport, but took my parents out today and they had trouble getting in the truck without them.
Any recommendations on a decisions step that can help entry for elderly/arthritic and still look decent?

They are a bit lower and away from the rockers, unlike a nerf that hug the rocker. They are perfect, in my opinion, for what you need. You can get a foot firmly and safely on them. They are solid as well.

If you want them to be functional, I would make sure the steps drop down like the oem predator steps. Most tube steps are too high.

Agreed. That's the main reason I'm asking. My tubes were tight to the body, and I'd like something more functional but still unobtrusive.

The Lund steps are nice. I had a set on my 2017. They are pretty glossy. I actually prefer the Toyota OEM black tube steps. More of a matte textured finish.

I ditched the 3" chrome nerf bars that came with my truck and put on 4" oval Steelcraft, matte black. They sit lower and further away from the bottom of the truck and were very good for getting into the truck. A plus was that the ends are welded, not just capped with plastic.truck.jpg

Take a look at Running Board PT767-35190. Solid build and non-slip. Works great.

I have Havoc Off road HS2 steps. These have been perfect for my 6 year old to get in and out. They are made from stainless steel so don't have to worry about rust.

I've got bad hips also and purchased Nfab Epyx. Help a ton, don't break the bank, sit a bit lower, look great IMHO. Wouldn't do any serious off-roading with them, which I do not. Also easy for my grand children to enter and exit.

I have a set of HDX step bars that are a little different than what Ed has above. The step portions drop down (more out than down) and give you a firm stepping area for getting in the truck. I'm 6'2" so I don't personally need the extra step for getting in and out but they're great for smaller passengers and the olds. Personally, I've found them most useful for getting things on and off the roof rack (kayaks mainly) as well as extra protection against door dings from dickheads at the grocery.

I'll may go the slider route down the road but these were a relatively inexpensive solution for my current setup in the meantime

I have the "shark boards" which are absolutely useless as a running board. It's pointless to have a step that's practically the same height as the door sill.

If you need a functional step, I really only see two options:

Predator steps if you don't mind the sightly reduced clearance,

    Or

AMP research power boards if you don't mind not having money.

I have these as well - like the look of these over other tubular looking steps. And like above, I don’t use the step to get in, as it’s an awkward step in for me being taller but I think my wife uses the step to get in and and she’s 5’ nothing. Also like the function to step up on it to wash the roof and a big of protection from dings.

When I bought mine I didn't want the Predator side steps that came on it. Dealer cut the cost and I thought I would sell them later. After a recent knee replacement, I'm glad I have them now. If I didn't have them, I don't know how I would get in and out of the truck. They're just the right height for me.

I have these one too (OEM). It’s aluminum and textured painted. Really ruff rhino line. Beautiful and looks awesome but I got scratched up, scuffed up and beat up on my leg with these so many times. These are also a bit out. I would go with the step sides because those are a bit lower and easy to clim up.
