I am trying to add Raptor lights to my 2020 OR and would like to use an ‘add a fuse’ in the under hood fuse box. I watched video on how to run a wire into the fuse box and not have to mess with the fuse box cover. I was able to unclip the wire bundle block entering the fuse box. However I need to pull up on the block to unhook the little flap to slip in the new wire. The problem is that their is no slack in the wires coming into the fuse box so I cannot pull up far enough to access the flap. Has anyone else had this difficulty? The only other option I can think of is to try to run a wire into the cab and add a fuse to the interior fuse box, but I am not sure an add-a-fuse fits there. I really do not want to splice or tap wires on a truck under warranty. Thanks!

An add a fuse will fit on the interior fuse box. I’m currently using one. The only issue I could see is if your add a fuse is not the “low profile mini” fuse type; that’s what all of the interior fuses are. I’m not sure what size fuses are under the hood though.

You won’t be able to put the lid back on the interior fuse box, but MESO makes a great extended one. I’m using that as well. Or you could technically just leave the cover off of it.

Thanks. How did you run a wire from the engine compartment to the interior? I will need to look at which interior fuses would be suitable for Raptor lights. I originally intended to have them wired to come on with low beam headlights. Which fuse did you add on to? Thanks again for the advice.

There’s a boot on the firewall by the drivers left foot. It’s what 99% of people go through. There’s a bunch of posts on here about it with pictures and whatnot (I’m not near my truck to take any)

As far as which fuse, I haven’t installed mine yet, but I’m not using a fuse. Someone made a harness for me that taps into the headlights. There’s a few different fuses you can use in the interior though.

I too need to know how to get through the firewall boot. Currently tapped into the engine bay fuse box but rather have it in the cab.

It’s pretty self explanatory when you go to your truck and look in the area I described. The boot is huge. Cant really miss it. You’ll see the hood latch cable running through it. Just shove a screwdriver/coat hanger through that boot, tape the cable you’re trying to run to it, and pull it through.

For which fuse; I’m not the fuse master and don’t know them offhand unfortunately. Best bet is to either search on here (maybe something like “interior ACC fuse”) or use a multimeter to test which fuse only comes on with the truck.

If I remember correctly mine had two empty fuse slots. One was ACC and one was always on. So I didn’t really tap into any other circuits.

Again, get down there and look. Shoot us some pictures of what you have. Bc what you have may be different than what I have. Know what I mean?

It’s rubber. Cut a small hole with a razor blade and run a long zip tie through it. Tape the wire to the zip tie and pull through.

On a separate note, I find it hard to believe you have over 7000 messages on here and have never seen a post about going through the boot. Then again, I see “sarcastic fair dust” in your name thingy...so that might explain it o_O

Goal is to try and not cut anything while I understand that could make things alot more difficult.

I don’t have those lights but I have my battery charger and air compressor tapped into the wiper/washer fuses.

Could never find good pictures or tutorials. Heck, even Tacoma owners on youtube can't even put a camera down the bay to show you.

Nah. Everyone on here does it. Like 95% prolly. You could always put some silicone around the wire to seal it up if you want. But unless you plan on being in 5 feet of water I wouldn’t worry about it.

I really have searched on TW and online for a clear solution to this. No sarcasm. I'm a very visual learner, so I like detailed pictures/videos.

In my experience this is the only way. The hole that all the factory wires pass through in the boot are sealed up like a dolphins butt. Poking a pinhole isn’t as risky as trying to undo the factory bundle of wires. In my opinion.

I’m with you. I’m the same way. But like I said, read what I wrote and go out to your truck and look. It’s really SUPER self explanatory once you’re looking.

Once you poke through into the cab, do you just reach up behind the steering wheel and pull it through?

Yup. I think it’s easiest to take the drivers kickpanel off though so you can run the wire behind that. If you’re standing outside do your truck you’ll see the boot with a cable going through it (may be other wires too...don’t remember). Any who, shove a coat hanger through the boot about and inch to the left of the other wires going through the boot. Tape your wire on the end of the coat hanger still outside of the truck.

Then go inside the truck with the lock panel removed, and you’ll see the coat hanger in the are where your left foot is usually at while driving (may need to pull the carpet up a hair in that area).

    Boom bam pow.
