I've just received my headers from trail gear and I'm preparing to upgrade my exaust.

I currently have a small case universal fit IN/OUT 2.25/2.25. The new headers ends at 2.5" So I'd like to upgrade the complete exaust to 2.5".

I'd also prefer to use a direct fit cat in case I want to replace it sometime with a shelf available part with just wrenching and no welding.

I found quite affordable cats that was used on OBD1 Toyota Camry with 3.0L engine also on Supra 7MGE, and Nissan D21 and few other cars according to the Summit racing application chard.

Theses have the stock 2 bolts flanges and 2.5" IN/OUT so will be a direct fit. They are a little bit shorter at 12 3/8" compared to the stock 16 5/8". The rest of my exaust will be custom made so no worry with that difference in lenght. Since all the applications are OBD1 I was wondering how really are the chance to cause MIL on a OBD2 car... I mean, the one I currently have is a wathever universal 2.25/2.25 short case that I badly fit (leak wise) under the truck and never have any MIL.

Basically I think as long as I my sensor are properly installed and the exaust is leak tight it should be good!

    Any experiences?

Probly will trigger a code. Things like California emmissions or federal emmissions matter too

P0420 is the code you receive if you have no cat or bad cat. Doesn't mean you gonna have it if you use a different cat.

Cars are not controlled in any ways in my location. some people just cancel them and add a test pipe. I think it's a bad idea, it increase pollution and it smells shit big time.

2 ways or 3 ways are just how are desingned the cat to react with exaust gas to work on 2 or 2 chemical reaction. But that's a good point. Therefore, according to wikipedia, they are all 3 ways since 1981.

Chances are there would be a po420, catalytic converter below threshold. But there's no solid way of knowing if it would happen or not, if you remove the cat on an obd2 vehicle with no o2 simulator it would have running problems as the ecu would be getting all sorts of bad readings
