I ordered the anytime camera kit for the 3rd gen and I followed the totally outdated video they have on their website. My kit has completely different color wires then what was shown in the video but i still followed the video so they can't say i used the wrong video. Got everything wired up and went to test the camera and it started smoking so i quickly disconnected it. I double checked all the wires and it was all good. So i started searching other videos for answers and come to find out the actual wiring diagram is different then what the video had. I wired it up now the correct way but I'm assuming something guy fried because there's absolutely no power in the switch. I called customer service and the guy told me he's gonna talk to someone. 2 minutes later he sends me a link to a switch. So i asked if i can just return it or get it exchanged and they replied with a 10% coupon for Morimoto. That was literally their only response. Wtf am I supposed to do with that. They sent a the right wiring diagram after but now its useless. It should of been posted on the website and all of this could of been avoided. So pretty much I'm out $200 and i have to spend another $200 for a new kit

I also received the 10% off coupon. It was a marketing email blast.

I'll take your 10% morimoto coupon.

Shit man that sucks, sorry to hear that. A lot of these broverlanding social media companies are all about image and don't know how to actually run a business. For example, they should have a correct wiring diagram available for any product that they send out. Doesn't need to be a video, but at least a print out in the packaging and/or a PDF online.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but it seems like you had different color wires from whatever instructions you were given, and wired it up anyways (and it blew)? If so, outdated instructions or not, whether the company sucks or not, it sounds like you made a $200 mistake of not reaching out for clarification before trying to power it all up. That sucks man, but we all learn from these crappy situations. I wouldn't expect a company to replace it in that type of scenario. Again, maybe I misunderstood, but hope something positive comes out of it for you OP.

    Oh look, another mod....

    This^^

If I order a kit and the instructions don't match up with what I have, I don't proceed out of fear I'll damage something. OP, most of this is on you. Take responsibility for moving forward even after you didn't have the correct instructions to do so.

The company didn't make you do it.

But if you were selling a product, wouldn't you make sure the video on your website is the correct and up to date instructional video? Or at least post a picture of the correct diagram

If the company truly had an outdated video on the website and the instructions directed you to that video, it’s pretty unfair to put all the blame on you.

If you paid with a credit card you could attempt to resolve with the CC company, but these aren’t typical slam dunk chargeback circumstances. I would try the company a few more times and then try your CC company.

Oh absolutely! And the fact that they didn't "could" potentially mean that the company sucks. But you both can be wrong in this scenario unfortunately. I know its not what you want to hear, but you're not the only one who's wired something backwards and blew something up. Doesn't help you any, but backwards wiring on modern trucks has done far far worse than $200 damage. Consider it a lesson learned the hard way, and hope it goes better next time. The moral of the story, if you run into wrong colored wires, STOP. Way too risky to just guess without clarification.

OP's Spider-sense should have started tingling the moment he realized that the install instructions did not match what he had in his hand and he should have gotten some guidance before proceeding with the install. But I concur; this company is doing it's customers a disservice by leaving outdated installation info up on their website (unless they are needed for previous versions of their product).

Yeah man, I have to agree with the majority here. The first step (prior to wiring it up) should have been verifying you had the correct instructions.

I get it, It would be nice if the company would kick down a bit more for the discrepancy in instructions but it's not as if they forced your hand. I would give it another shot but be cordial and take ownership for moving forward with their "outdated" instructions. The wise Buffalo Springfield once said, "Nobody's right if everybody's wrong." And it would seem both sides are wrong here.

It likely was for previous versions. I installed the front camera for my 2021 and a lot of the videos were for pre-2020 models which have a different wiring setup or maybe a previous version of the Anytime Backup Camera system. I had to look at the wiring diagram on the actual site to understand what I needed to do.

    https://www.anytimebackupcamera.com/blogs/install-help/component-diagram

IIRC, all the wires were color coded and matched up except for the red from camera feed which needed to connect to the switch green wire.

OP, sorry for your troubles but I've gotta agree with everyone else here. Expensive lesson learned unfortunately.
