Hello, my 2002 4WD manual transmission Tacoma started to make a noise like it is going over a rumble strip. The noise will come and go as I drive. My tires are balanced and the alignment is good. I feel no vibration at the wheel. Any ideas what is causing it?

    Possibly the rear wheel bearings.

I have had the surface on the road cause this issue sounds like something is going to fall out.

What do you mean Come and Go ?? What seems to effect your noise ?

Road speed , Rpm the gear your in?

Does it make the noise in gear and out of gear ? Clutch depressed or released ??

The noise will happen on any road and starts around 40 mph. Sometimes the noise just stops but momentarily and starts again.

Harmonic Vibration caused by the rpm or road speed or air movement under the truck.

To Check for rear wheel bearings. jack the truck up support with jack stands.

Look for leaks at the rear wheel seals I back off the brakes slowly spin the wheel feeling for any rough spots on both sides.

Thanks for your help. It was a wheel bearing. Unfortunately, it was the front right which was replaced two years ago.

Check your heat shields on the catalytic converter and around the exhaust. I had a bolt rust away on the converter that held the shield in place that would vibrate like hell when accelerating. Normal idle it quieted down. My nephew who is a mechanic grabbed my exhaust and shook it hard and the rattle was noticed. I missed it when I did a visual inspection. Everything seemed to be in place, but it wasn't. I was worried my torque converter was going bad. It was an easy fix.
