Yesterday I ran across a "stand" for a roof top tent. It was attached to the tent, and you could unfold it to enable leaving the tent at camp while you went off doing truck stuff. But I don't remember where I saw it.

The closest I could find was something that CVT was trying to design several years ago called the Basecamp, but I don't think it ever came to market. Anyone ran across something like this before?

That's the one I remember. But for $2000 and getting it from South Africa isn't going to happen. I think it's a cool idea, but I'm not confident on the stability. Maybe time to look at a trailer or teardrop for the few times I want to basecamp.

Looks like a splendid way to see your RTT disappear while you are out touring. o_O

Man I love my RTT but this seems like the perfect situation for a ground tent.

I hear you there. No thanks for me too. I really don’t mind being connected to “my home” if I decide to go explore. Did this very thing on my last trip. Everything else stayed behind at camp.

That was my first thought. Why have an RTT if you're just going to dismount it at the campsite? Serious question; not trying to be a smartass. I like the idea of an RTT for the fact that they're quick to set-up, they're always with your truck and they keep you off the ground. Seems like with the stand, the ONLY advantage over a ground tent would be the elevation. Is there another advantage that I'm missing besides being off the ground? I don't know if the price tag of an RTT, bed rack and basecamp stand, not to mention all that added weight makes more sense than a $100 ground tent.

Edit: That would also be VERY easy for someone to back their truck up under and abscond with your very pricy investment while you're "off doing truck stuff", lol.

Saw something similar to this at Moab EJS but it was made for a Jeep JL. I agree that it would be nice at times to be able to leave your tent setup and have use of your rig but a ground tent is a lot cheaper option.
