RSI SmartCap + iKamper Mini or GFC?

Is anyone running this setup; RSI SmartCap and an iKamper Mini?

I've been running a 12" RCI bedrack with an iKamper mini for the past couple of years. Last year I ran the rack with the bed open. This year I used the tonneau adaptors (which were a little underwhelming) and modified a roll-up tonneau to work with this.

With the rack and tent on I missed being able to close up the bed, but my attempted solution of the adapted roll-up tonneau isn't great as it doesn't seal well and is very difficult to roll in and out under the rack.

I love having my RTT but am getting frustrated with how this is compromising the bed, it's sorta neither here or there in terms of usability when thinking of a completely open bed or a topper.

I really like the look of the RSI SmartCap, but am worried that the cap, plus mounting solution, plus ikamper would end up very very high.

Is anyone running such a setup? if so how have you mounted the ikamper on the smart cap? what's the overall height from the top of the cap to the top of the ikamper?

My alternative approach is sell the rack, tonneau and tent and go for a GFC, however I really love my iKamper. Interested and keen to hear if anyone has made the switch from an iKamper to a GFC and what their thoughts are.

Some pics for the sake of it, as any thread without pics is dull...

Current setup of; RCI, RCI tonneau adaptors, adapted cheap tonneau roll-up, iKamper.

Last year's setup of RCI, not tonneau, no adaptors, just open bed and iKamper:

The GFC is a massive improvement over a shell with separate RTT.

Just recently purchased a used SmartCap from a person who was upgrading to the GFC... you can't really compare them as the price is 2x more. if your budget is 8k+ and you're willing to always be hauling a topper / RTT go for the GFC.

As i am in construction and needed a safe way to store my tools in the bed, i went with the smartcap. I've spent a night out camping with it already, and the build quality of it is amazing. i know there are reports of leaking SmartCaps but im sure any issues that arise i will be able to fix.

The Cap sits very level with the roof of your truck. I don't know exactly what brand, but i do know there are roof racks with very low clearance that work nicely with RSI. i'd suggest doing that if you want to put your RTT on top. Will it sit pretty high? yes. but compared to my coworkers F350, im sure even with a RTT on my RSI i would still be lower then the height of his truck. so its all comparative.

If you want any solid measurements of the RSI let me know ill measure with my tape and get back to ya.

I have an RSI shell as well and love it. A few leaks when I wash it but nothing crazy and would be easy to fix if needed. Mine sits just above the roofline of the cab. I saw in the SmartCap thread that someone used GFC mounting tabs on the crossbars to keep a low profile. Whenever I can swing a RTT, I'll probably do the same. Can't say enough good things about the functionality of the RSI though! Looks dope too. Let me know if you decide to sell your iKamper :)

The iKamper will be a bit higher than just the RCI adaptors but the rails for the smartcap sit pretty flush. I think they look great with the RTTs on top and I've seen them shifted forward a bit resting on a prinsu type rack on the cab.

It's been a while since I originally posted this, but bumping to see if since his anyone is running the RSI+iKamper setup, if so would love to see some pics and racks/bar mounting options people went with.

I'm starting to lean towards wanting a cap. The GFC seems great, but I think I'd prefer to stick with the ikamper for camping comfort.

I do not yet have either. I have thought about this a ton and have decided to got the smart cap and a RTT. I won’t be camping all the time and can take the RTT off whenever I want and store it.
it will be cheaper and just as functional in my opinion.

I don't have a ikamper but I have the smart cap with prinsu racks on the cab and cap. I used front runner quick release rtt mount so I can remove the tent when I don't need it.20221218_140150.jpg

Nice set-up, Fat Taco! I have the same Prinsu/RSI combo, but had taken my Prinsu canopy rack off of a Leer canopy. How did you mount the Prinsu to the top of your SmartCap?

I used the smart cap mounts and hit them with a step bit to make the holes line up
