RSI Smart Cap

I can’t wait to test the new latches out. I’ll finally be able to secure myself and not be trapped.

 

@Mike's Custom Toys I see the update on your website about the latches on 7/15, but it shows "Available for pickup". Are these actually available now? I have these on my cap I bought back in March, but two of them have failed where they pop open from the pressure of the door. I found this out the hard way when I got home, and my driver side cap door was wide open. RSI is replacing them for me, but they don't have an ETA yet on when they'll ship. I swapped one to each side so I can sort of keep the cap closed, but they'll pop open even when locked with a little pull on the door. If you have them in stock, I'll order them now instead of waiting.

They should be able to ship them immediately as a warranty. I will send you a PM for specifics

As a retrofit they provided us with part numbers, pricing and started accepting orders for the new latches on 7/15. I have not seen them ship yet, I do expect them to any day as they finally have a decent supply. Its been a long wait but we are nearly there.

 

can you PM me as well? My locks are lame, they freeze and it’s a struggle to open them.

Could someone with the SmartCap and a bin measure from the bed (on top of the rib) to the bottom of the bin? Also, what is the width at the top of the cap? Please and thank you.

SmartCaps look good - but I am biased!

 

I bet that topper and all others are going to smack that little roof spoiler when that bed shakes and the frame twists. Boxed frame or not, it will happen off-road. I’m sure the manufacturers will just notch that spot on the topper though.

 

Could someone explain to me how everyone in this thread is running RTT on Loadbars that are advertised at 55 lbs per bar?

I understand the load is distributed, but Note: The load per Load Bars must not exceed 55lbs or 25kg, and ensure the load is distributed evenly.

 

Although they do not say it, my guess is that is the dynamic load rating. The static reading would be significantly more. They talk about supporting a RTT in the Q&A tab.

I know some here have mentioned using 3 load bars for larger or heavier tents.

This is actually a misprint and they are working on getting it changed. It should be 125 per bar.

Anyone know the precise differences between the Smartcap for the 3rd gen vs 4th gen short beds?

Asked another way: What would it take to transplant my Smartcap from my 3rd gen to a 4th gen if I were to get one?

 

I think the roof spoiler on the 4th gen will prevent this from being possible even if the dimensions otherwise are the same.

You might, however, be able to replace the panel closest to the cab with one for the 4th gen but that is a big maybe.
