    RSCA= rear side curtain airbags.
This is single press and release.
Should get a light in cluster telling you it’s off.

    Trac off has 2 functions
Single press and release= Trac Off
Press and hold for 3+ seconds= Trac off and VSC off.
Both of these show up in cluster as well.
Are you trying to push both at the same time?

definitely odd. Especially since they come on at start up verifying that they function. I’m certain of the button procedure as my Taco and 4Runner are the same.
Has anyone done any electrical work like aftermarket radio, lights or something?

Pop the switches out and make sure they are plugged in.

The VSC or TRAC OFF/VSC OFF function button has three settings:
    1) Normal is TRAC (a light traction control or limited slip).
    2) Quick press (moving or stopped) is TRAC OFF (stronger traction control or limited slip).
    3) Press and hold in for 3+ seconds while stopped is VSC OFF, which is NO traction control or stability control (ie. = to open differentials).

I *think* there some other qualifiers in there..

RSCA might only be available in 4x4 and 4Lo?

And for full VSC off to be achieved you need to be stopped and hold the button for 3+ seconds.

Edit: as @David K said there is an intermediate traction control mode / limited slip that is activated by a single quick push/release of the TRAC button. If you dont see any lights even with a quick push Id say check that the button is actually hooked up.

RSCA can be turned off anytime the vehicle is stationary by holding the button for 3 secs, the RSCA Off light should illuminate.

Pressing the VSC button once turns on Auto LSD, pressing and holding while stopped disables traction control and stability control (stability control will re-activate over 30mph).

You have to push them out from behind, I believe you can take the little storage compartment out and get to them.

Yes! In 2WD the quick press function is called 'Auto LSD' and in 4WD-HI it is called 'TRAC OFF'* for the same function (who can figure the reason for the crazy names from Toyota Corp.)!!??

TRAC OFF is actually MORE TRAC as the engine output regulation is turned OFF so the power is not cut when you need to climb up or out!

*This is for 2012 or 2013 and newer models. 2009-2011 or 2012 does not have TRAC OFF selection in H4, we are always in TRAC OFF mode in H4 without pressing the button.

im going to see if the buttons are actually hooked up today.
i noticed while in 4wd lo the traction light comes on the dash.
what happens if the buttons are hooked up? what would the issue be? fuse?

Traction control is disabled when in 4lo unless you have A-Trac on (09+ TRD OffRoad only), If the switches are plugged in but don't work I would have to suspect a broken wire or bad switch. There are no dedicated fuses for the switches themselves.

I don't see why not, maybe someone had the dash out and forgot to plug them in.
