Noticed this morning after I started truck that when I stepped on the brake the engine rpm raised about 200. Took foot off and it drops to normal. Stepped back on brake and engine rpm goes up, after driving a bit it does not repeat this. Only after I first start it up it does this. Anyone experience this?

When I first start the truck and I do anything that has a draw the RPMs rise. Break, turn steering wheel, turn fan on. I think that's fairly standard. Our car does that same thing when we first turn her over but not once the engine's been turning the alternator for a bit: does it with steering wheel, fan, lights, but not with breaks.

mine does this all the time... basically revs up slightly when im in reverse and trying to park ina tight spot up against a wall. I realized its only when i turn the wheel. even the slightest touch of the wheel.

A lot of cars do this. My civic will do it when you turn the steering wheel.

Cold starts will have different settings than warm starts or warm engine.

I dreamed of having an automatic engine rever when pushing the clutch while braking to a stop in order to help keep my engine from stalling on my “68 carborated BMW. So I developed the three pedal push- one foot on the clutch, and the other one on both brake and gas pedal by keeping the heel on the brake while my toes pushed the accelerator. Concider yourself lucky to have such a finely engineered vehicle that it does all that for you! :)

Actually, I wonder if you are mistaking this for brake assist? - could your tranny (auto?) be simply brake assisting by automatically downshifting while you are stopping or slowing down?

That's the idle control valve compensating for the extra load.

Mine does that too. I think it has something to do with being an off road model and having the electronic brake booster. I’d assume it requires more power to run the pump so the engine rpm goes up.

When you depress the brake pedal you artifically increase engine vacuum, which causes the idle to temporarily rise. Cold engine vacuum is lower than hot engine vacuum because the pistons and cylinders have not warmed up to size.
